Medical college in Telangana gets no relief from HC over admission row

After National Medical Commission (NMC) cancelled the undergraduate and postgraduate medical admissions of three private medical colleges in Telangana, TRR Medical College and Mahavir Institute Medical Sciences (MIMS) challenged the NMC's decision in the high court.

While TRR Medical College got temporary relief from the court as the court directed NMC not to proceed with the cancellation of 150 MBBS admissions till the decision of the statutory appeal filed by the college before NMC. However, the court has now refused to grant any interim relief to Mahavir Institute Medical Sciences (MIMS) in Vikarabad and said that medical colleges cannot be run with the help of stay orders.

NMC has ordered to cancel 150 MBBS and 39 PG medical seats in MIMS.

The High Court bench of Chief Justice Satish Chandra Sharma and Justice Abhinand Kumar Shavili, which heard the plea of MIMS, directed the NMC to decide on the appeal filed by the college within the time frame stipulated by the NMC Act.

NMC will pass an appropriate order, says HC

The bench said that the commission will adjudicate the matter and pass an appropriate order uninfluenced by the observations made here, as reported by TOI.

"The college can approach this court if it suffers any adverse order at the NMC committee," added the High Court.

NMC's counsel said that the inspection team come across major deficiencies in the medical college including only 10% bed occupancy in the attached hospital whereas the prescribed requirement is 75%. Also, NMC's counsel mentioned that there is a 50% faculty deficiency in the medical college.
