Bihar: Demand for AIIMS in Saharsa Intensifies; 20 MPS met Union Health Minister

As many as 20 MPS from Bihar met the Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya to demand AIIMS in Saharsa. The MPs said that the number of patients suffering from cancer, kidney, heart and other serious diseases is very high in the north-eastern region including Saharsa, Madhepura, Supaul, Khagaria, Purnia, Katihar, Araria and Kishanganj and there is no super speciality hospital in the north-eastern region of the state.

The demand for starting an All India Institute Of Medical Science (AIIMS) in Saharsa has intensified with a campaign started by the MPs of the state. 

To put their demand forward, as many as 20 MPs met Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya. The delegation of MPs led by Madhepura MP Dinesh Chandra Yadav met the union minister and handed over a letter to him that highlighted that every year the north-eastern region of the state witnesses mass migration due to the floods and poverty. The number of patients suffering from cancer, kidney, heart and other serious diseases is very high in the north-eastern region including Saharsa, Madhepura, Supaul, Khagaria, Purnia, Katihar, Araria and Kishanganj and there is no super-speciality hospital in this area to provide health services to these people.

Of these MPs, 16 are from JDU and one each from BJP, RJD, Congress and LJP. It was said in the letter that the District Magistrate of Saharsa had informed the state government that 217.74 acres of land were available for the construction of AIIMS. 

"It is sad that there is no good hospital in the area. As a result of which poor villagers do not get timely treatment and they die," says the letter.

The letter is signed by the 20 MPs. Interestingly, MPs representing places like Siwan, Nalanda, Karakat, Gaya, Valmikinagar, Gopalganj and Jehanabad have also signed the letter that too knowing that the people of their area would not come to Saharsa for treatment, as reported by Navbharat Times.
