The petition has been filed by a group of MBBS graduates who had appeared for the National Eligibility Entrance Test (NEET) PG 2021 exam and are eligible for PG medical courses.

NEET PG 2021: A group of students has filed a petition in Kerala High Court challenging the state government's notice for increasing the reservation for the Socially and Economically Backward Classes (SEBC) in postgraduate medical courses. Kerala government had earlier increased the SEBC quota from 9 percent to 27 percent. The matter will be heard by Justice N Nagaresh on Monday, November 29.

The petition has been filed by a group of MBBS graduates who had appeared for the National Eligibility Entrance Test (NEET) PG 2021 exam and are eligible for PG medical courses. There are a total of 833 seats for PG courses out of which 427 seats are filled up from the rank list prepared by the Commissioner of Entrance Examinations. Of the total seats allotted to the state, 9 per cent  is reserved for SEBC, the LiveLaw report stated.

The state government on October 20 had issued a circular in which it had mentioned that the reservation pattern of seats has been revised for admission to PG medical courses in Kerala by increasing the SEBC quota to 27 per cent and reducing the seats for the general candidates by 38 per cent.

Meanwhile, the Federation of Resident Doctorsโ€™ Association (FORDA) has announced nationwide withdrawal of Out Patient Department (OPD) services from Saturday, November 27, onwards due to repeated delays in counselling. It must be noted that the NEET PG Counselling 2021 has been delayed further due to the pleas filed in Supreme Court challenging the Centre and Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) July 29 notice providing 27 per cent reservation for Other Backward Class (OBC) and 10 per cent for EWS category in the NEET admissions for medical courses.
