The management of the private medical colleges in Kerala is planning to move to High Court against the state government's order to not hike the MBBS fees.

The management of the self-financing medical colleges in Kerala is planning to knock the High Court door against the state government's order that directed not to hike the fee of the professional colleges in the state in the backdrop of the ongoing Covid-19 crisis.

The self-financing medical colleges in the state are not happy with the government's decision to not allow the fees increase and hence this issue had been under the consideration of the Supreme Court and High Court for some time now. On the other hand, the parents of the medical students are complaining about the high fees demanded by the private medical colleges.

In an order dated June 17, 2021 the Department of Higher Education had said that the MBBS (Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery) fees for the current academic year would not be increased.

Amid all this, the Fee Regulatory Committee has not announced the fee structure for the current academic year. The Committee had been directed to ensure that the fee is reasonable and non-exploitative.

The college managements have pointed out that despite the High Court panel had directed the Fee Regulatory Committee to come up with a fee structure decision before February 15, the process has not yet been completed.

Citing the delay in starting the fee regulation process, college managements have been demanding that irrespective of the government order, the regulation should not be allowed at this late hour, as reported by ONmanorama.

The Christian medical managements were demanding that the fee should be hiked for upgrading facilities in the medical colleges and fees for private medical college students who are undergoing training in post-mortem examinations in the government hospitals should be increased by five times.
