Maharashtra University of Health Sciences postpones exams amid Covid-19 outbreak

Due to the Covid-19 outbreak, the Maharashtra University of Health Sciences (MUHS) has postponed the examinations of medical students to February 14.
Amid increasing Covid-19 cases in Maharastra, Maharashtra University of Health Sciences (MUHS) has postponed the examinations of medical students to February 14. Earlier, the examinations were to start on January 17. Also, the examinations of all the faculties of the graduate courses will be conducted from February 28. It was earlier scheduled to be held from January 31.
The decision to postpone the examination was taken at the meeting chaired by Amit Vilasrao Deshmukh. The other attendees in the meeting were the Vice-Chancellor of the University, Lieutenant General (Retd.) Dr. Madhuri Kanitkar, Joint Director Dr. Ajay Chandanwale, Registrar,Dr. Kalidas Chavan, Controller of Examinations Ajit Pathak, Secretary Department of Medical Education, Saurabh Vijay, Commissioner of Medical Education, Virendra Singh, Director Dr. Dilip Mhaisekar and concerned officers.
MUHS took this decision keeping in view that need may arise for medical services of medical teachers and students in case of the high prevalence of Omicron virus in the state.
On Sunday, the state reported 207 new cases of the Omicron variant of coronavirus. Sangli reported 57 Omicron cases, Mumbai- 40, Pune-22, Nagpur-21, Pimpri Chinchwad-15, Thane city-12, Kolhapur-8, Amravati-6 and Osmanabad-5. Buldhana and Akola each reported four cases, Gondia-3, Nandurbar, Satara, and Gadchiroli added 2 Omicron cases, as reported by Indian Express.
The state government has revised the Covid-19 related restrictions for beauty salons and gyms, allowing them to operate at 50% capacity from January 10 at midnight.
