NCPCR directs appropriate action to improve maintainance and sanitation at GMC Srikakulam
After receiving letter from students' body AISU on the issue of bad sanitation at the Governement Medical College Srikakulam, the National Commission For Protection Of Child Rights has told the IAS Collector & District Magistrate, srikakulam to take appropriate action and dispose of matter.
All India Students Union (AISU) had written to National Commission For Protection Of Child Rights (NCPCR) to urge their intervention to improve maintenance and sanitation facilities at Government Medical College. Now, NCPCR has written to the IAS Collector & District Magistrate, srikakulam and directed that appropriate action must be taken.
"Commission has received representation vide email from Shri N Adarsh stating that there are issues related to maintenance and sanitation at the Government Medical College Srikakulam. He also came to know that hostel facilitie sare lacking like there is no proper drinking water facility, proper hygience and good drinking water are necessary for the student to avoid health issues," reads NCPCR's letter.
The AISU's letter stated that these issues were conveyed to the Principal of GMC several times. Many students have raised complaints and appealed to the Principal. We too requested him to look into this. The principal promised to improve all the facilities by speaking to his students and listening to their problems and resolving them. But unfortunately, there was no improvement.
AISU's letter to NCPCR said, there is no proper drinking water facility in the campus and hostels. The drinking water problem is causing huge trouble for students as water disposal pots/machines are not available in hostels. These basic things like proper hygiene and good drinking water are necessary for the students to avoid health issues, added AISU.
