NEET PG 2021 Counselling: Centre requests urgent hearing of EWS Quota case
The Centre has requested the Supreme Court today to schedule the hearing of the Economically Weaker Section (EWS) quota case related to NEET PG 2021 Counselling on Tuesday.
After deciding to retain the existing Economically Weaker Section (EWS) criteria for All India Quota (AIQ) seats for the ongoing admissions, today the Centre has requested the Supreme Court of India to schedule a hearing in EWS quota matter related to National Eligibility cum Entrance Test Postgraduate (NEET-PG) Counselling 2021 on Tuesday, citing "some urgency".
Solicitor General Tushar Mehta has mentioned the matter before the court's bench on behalf of the Centre today. The bench of justices DY Chandrachud and AS Bopanna told him that the EWS quota matter is being heard by a three-judge bench of the top court.
Justice Chandrachud said, "The moment today's work gets over, I would make a request to CJI NV Ramana for the listing of the case," as reported by NDTV.
Solicitor General Mehta has also requested the court that if not possible on Tuesday, then the case could be listed on Wednesday. At present, it is listed for hearing on January 6. A senior advocate on behalf of doctors who have challenged a government notification related to the EWS quota said he has no issues if the matter gets listed on Tuesday or Wednesday.
After the large-scale protests by resident doctors all across the country for nearly a month against the delay in NEET-PG Counselling 2021, the counselling for postgraduate medical courses is expected to begin next week. The Union Health Minister had assured the protesting doctors that MoHFW will submit the Committee Report to the Supreme Court before January 6 and will publish the NEET PG 2021 Counselling schedule following the Court hearing on January 6, as confirmed by the Federation of Resident Doctors’ Association (FORDA) official release.
