Postpone NEET PG 2023: Exam deferment will not delay counselling, says FORDA President

The NEET PG 2023 aspirants have filed a case in Supreme Court and Telangana high court to urge NEET PG 2023 postponement. Meanwhile, Dr Aviral Mathur, President of the doctors association Federation of Resident Doctors Association (FORDA) reiterated the demand to postpone NEET PG 2023 so that students can get enough time to prepare for the crucial exam. This will not delay the counselling process, he added.

Dr Mathur told Shiksha, "We were fighting for the best interest of the candidates since January 2023 when the bulletin first came and we were very happy when the internship deadline was extended not once but twice. A recent extension occurred on February 7, when the government extended the internship cut-off to August 11, 2023, which included almost every intern in the country but we met Mansukh Mandaviya ji the very next day on February 8, 2023, and we are the only association which could meet the health minister. We had a very cordial discussion with him. We represented all the complaints and all the pleas we have been getting. Students are anxious because there is a lot of unreasonable gap between the exam and the counselling, that is the only sore point right now. Every other aspect has been addressed. The sore point is there is a gap of almost 6 months between the exam and the counselling, so the students do not know what to do in that period."

Reacting to Mansukh Mandaviya's statement in Parliament that the exam date was announced well in advance he said "So the point is once the result is out, based on rank the students get an idea which seat in which college they can get but due to the long gap between exam and counselling, how can they decide that whether they should prepare for the exam or wait for the counselling to secure the expected seat. Imagine a scenario, where they have prepared for the NEET PG 2023 exam and in NEET PG 2022 counselling they already secured the seat they were expecting, and also, if they do not prepare and lose the expected seat."
