SC to HC: Speed-up judgement on domicile validity for PG medical admissions in MP
The Supreme Court has recently asked High Court to expedite the decision-making on the 100% reservation for Madhya Pradesh candidates in PG medical admissions in the state.
The Supreme court has set a deadline of August 25 for the same and asked the high court to decide by this date. The supreme court has also dismissed the Special Leave Petition by the association of Private Universities in Madhya Pradesh as reported by Livelaw. On Monday, the Apex Court said, "The High Court is requested to dispose of the writ petition on the said date i.e. August 25 as the matter pertains to the reservations in Post Graduate Medical Courses."
The apex court was responding to the association, when they approached the top court challenging the HC order on August 4.
Until now, to secure a PG medical seat in MP, a candidate must be a domicile of the state. Hence, students from other states even after securing a rank in the All India Merit List can apply for the counselling process only after the first round of counselling gets completed and only when domicile candidates or those who completed their MBBS from the state are exhausted.
The association had challenged this rule saying that it is contrary to the SC's observations in many other related cases.
On August 4, HC had adjourned the matter saying the question of law that is involved in the case is already under consideration in SC for pronouncement which was fixed for hearing on August 7.
