Ukraine returned 2021 batch Indian medicos request transfer to safe country
The Indian medical students who have returned from Ukraine due to the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine are now demanding National Medical Commission and the government to transfer them to some safe country as they cannot enter Ukraine's war zone.
Ukraine-returned Indian medical students are demanding that they should be transferred to some safe country as they cannot enter the war-hit country Ukraine.
"The Russia-Ukraine war is only intensifying. It does not seem to be ending anytime soon. In such a situation, how can we go back to Ukraine and complete the remaining studies. Most of our seniors whose admission was done before 2021 are studying in some other country by taking transfer. Like Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, all these countries have the same study pattern as Ukraine" said the students.
"We 2021 batch students (whose admission is September batch, summer intake) cannot take transfer anywhere due to the new rule of National Medical Council. Earlier in 2010 also a similar rule had come that transfer cannot be taken. But in 2014, during the Crimean War, students were exempted from the rules by the commission," they added.
In the Gazette of India published in 2016, it was written that if war or unrest spreads in any country and the Government of India receives this information through the Indian Embassy, then in such a situation the students will be exempted from the commission rules. But why is the exemption not being given to us? The war is going on for almost 2 years now and there is no clarity on how long it will last, they said.
We are stuck in a bad way, says Ukraine returned medicos
The whole of India knows that the Government of India has made arrangements for the students who have returned from Ukraine. All of them are completing their studies in Russia. But it is not so. This is half truth. The truth is that we are all stuck in a very bad way. How long will we continue to study MBBS online. The war is going on. Can't even return back. Half incomplete things have been told by the government through the media in the whole country. Everywhere there is praise for Operation Ganga. Yes, we all are thankful to the Government of India that they brought us back safely from there under Operation Ganga Mission. But they forgot the promises they made at that time.
"No one is listening to us including NMC , PMO, and Health ministry. We have sent thousands of mails, letters, and grievances everywhere. But we have not received any response yet," added the students.
If NMC gives us a one-time relaxation in extraordinary situations, then the career of all of us will be saved from being ruined. We will be able to complete our studies peacefully and will be able to become good doctors in future.
If NMC or Government of India will not relax the rules, then we will be forced to return back in the face of death. We and our family members will spend time in fear.
Also, we might have to leave our studies because our family members don't have that much money to take new admission again in some other country.
We had taken admission to these courses despite great financial constraints in the hope of a good future. Some had sold land and some had mortgaged jewellery. Some had also taken loans.
