NEET PG 2021 counselling: SC to hear EWS quota case tomorrow
The Centre had on Monday requested the court to schedule a hearing in the case, citing “urgency” in view of the protests by the resident doctors against the delay in NEET PG counselling.
Chief Justice of India NV Ramana has agreed to list the case related to economically weaker section (EWS) quota in connection with the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test postgraduate (NEET PG 2021) counselling for hearing tomorrow (January 5).
The Centre had on Monday requested the court to schedule a hearing in the case, citing “urgency” in view of the protests by the resident doctors against the delay in NEET-PG counselling. Resident doctors, who protested across the country against the delay in NEET PG 2021 counselling, had recently called off their agitation considering factors such as patient care. The Federation of Resident Doctors' Association (FORDA) said that Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya agreed to the following demands in the meeting held on December 29.
Solicitor General of India Tushar Mehta appearing for Centre said, “Resident doctors are protesting and their concerns are genuine.” “It concerns EWS of society. There’s a statement made by us which prevents further counselling of resident doctors,” the Solicitor General submitted.
After the large-scale protests by resident doctors all across the country for nearly a month against the delay in NEET-PG Counselling 2021, the counselling for postgraduate medical courses is expected to begin next week. The Union Health Minister had assured the protesting doctors that MoHFW will submit the Committee Report to the Supreme Court before January 6 and will publish the NEET PG 2021 Counselling schedule following the Court hearing on January 6, as confirmed by the Federation of Resident Doctors’ Association (FORDA) official release.
