National Medical Commission (NMC) guidelines for fees of 50% seats of the private medical college will be implemented from the next academic session, confirms official sources.

NMC guidelines of fees of private medical colleges to be implemented from next academic session

Last month, National Medical Commission (NMC) had notified that the fees of the 50% seats of the private medical college and deemed universities should be at par with the fees of the government medical colleges in that particular state & UT. Now, as per reports, these guidelines will be implemented from the next academic session.

The official sources have said that the guidelines will have to be mandatorily implemented by the fee fixation committee of each state for their respective medical colleges, as reported by NDTV.

What NMC say on fees of 50% seats in private medical colleges?

The official notification stated, "After extensive consultations, it has been decided that the fee of the 50% seats in the private medical college & deemed universities should be at par with the fee in the government medical college of that particular state & UT. For the determination of fees for MBBS/PG courses, it needs to be ensured that the principle of education being "non-for-profit" is strictly adhered to."

NMC guidelines more relevant after Russia-Ukraine crisis

The NMC guidelines of fees now look more relevant as the Russia-Ukraine crisis has highlighted that many Indian students go abroad for studying medicine as the course is much more affordable in many other countries. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Maharashtra government have said that the students must be given more opportunities here so that they don't need to go to other countries for studying medical courses.
