India –EU virtual summit held from July 15
Indian-European Union (EU) virtual summit started on July 15, 2020. Prime Minister Narendra Modi Co-chaired the summit with the President of European Commission Ursula Gertrud Von Der Leyen and President of the European Council Charles Michel. It was the 15th summit between India and the European Union. PM Modi announced that India and EU are the natural partners and their partnership is important to solve new problems that arose due to coronavirus pandemic.
After 13 years of negotiations, India and the European Union on Tuesday sealed a civil nuclear cooperation agreement just one day before the India-EU summit.
Centre issued guidelines for digital school education in India - PRAGYATA.
The Ministry of Human Resource and Development issued guidelines for Digital Education. These guidelines are prepared by the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT). Since education is the state subject, these guidelines are advisory in nature only and the state government can issue their own rules pertaining to their local needs and conditions.
The guidelines include eight steps of online/digital learning i.e. Plan- Review- Arrange- Guide- Yak (talk)- Assign- Track- Appreciate.
Google will be the 4th Strategic Partner of Reliance Jio
Mukesh Ambani in the 43rd Annual General Meeting (AGM) on July 15, 2020 announced that Google will be the new strategic partner of Reliance Jio. It was the first instance that the Reliance AGM was conducted through video webcast. Google and Jio will collaborate to develop a new operating system for the Jio Phones and maybe for other android phones in India.
The Reliance Chairman Mukesh Ambani announced that Google will invest Rs 33,737 crore for a 7.7 per cent stake in Jio Platforms. The Jio will have the following strategic partners.
Facebook, Google, Intel and Qualcomm.
World Youth Skill Day – July 15
United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) recognised July 15 as the World Youth Skills Day in 2014. This year marked as the fifth anniversary of the event. This day also marked the launch of ‘Skill India Mission’.
The Theme for 2020 was “Skills for a Resilient Youth in the Era of COVID 19 and Beyond”.This year’s event was focussed on the importance of developing skilled youth.
IIT Delhi made most affordable Corona testing kit – COROSURE
Union Minister of Human Resource and Development, Mr Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank launched COROSURE. It is the world’s most affordable corona test kit made by IIT Delhi. This kit is an RT-PCR based COVID-19 diagnostic kit. The base price of the kit is Rs 399. It will also give impetus to the Aatma Nirbhar Bharat campaign of Government of India.
Ashok Lavasa appointed as the Vice President of Asian Development Bank
Asian Development Bank Board on July 15 appointed the 1980 Batch retired IAS officer Ashok Lavasa as the vice president of ADB. He is currently serving as the Election Commissioner of India. Lavasa will succeed vice president Diwakar Gupta.
ADB appoints the vice president for a term of three years, which can be extended by another two years. The ADB president heads a management team comprising six vice presidents.
Hemang Amin appointed as interim CEO of BCCI
Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) appointed Hemang Amin as the interim CEO of the BCCI on July 15, 2020. The BCCI also informed that it has accepted the resignation of former BCCI CEO Rahul Johri. Formerly, Hemang Amin was serving as BCCI’s IPL Chief operating officer.
