UPSC Announces Changes in Online IAS Application Process After Receiving Feedback

UPSC IAS Prelims Exam 2025: The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has announced some changes in its online IAS prelims application system for this year’s civil services exam after aspirants complained of technical glitches while applying through it. The official notice states, "In view of the queries/difficulties raised by the candidates in filling up the online application form for the Civil Services Examination, 2025, the Commission has decided to make the following changes in the One-Time Registration (OTR) for filling up of the online application."
Some of the entries in the UPSC IAS application form have been made “editable” in the one-time registration. The last date for UPSC CSE registration 2025 and the Indian Forest Service (Preliminary) was also extended till February 18, 2025 ( till 6 pm). Earlier, the last date to apply for the exams online was February 11.
Editable Fields UPSC IAS Prelims 2025 Application Form
To streamline the UPSC CSE application process, the Commission has made select entries “editable” in the one-time registration (OTR) system for the Civil Services Examination. The below-mentioned fields in the UPSC OTR profile will be editable until the final submission of the application, and thereafter during the IAS prelims correction window:
- Have you ever changed your name?
- Gender
- Minority Status
- Class 10th Board Examination Roll Number
Non-editable Fields in UPSC IAS Application Form 2025
The following details cannot be edited:
- Name (as per Class X)
- Date of Birth
- Father’s Name
- Mother’s Name
- Mobile Number
- Email ID
Changes in Contact Information in UPSC IAS Application Form 2025
If a candidate loses access to their registered contact details, UPSC has implemented a procedure for updating them.
- Mobile Number: If a candidate loses access to their registered mobile number but retains their email ID, they can request a mobile number change, with OTP sent to the email for verification.
- Email ID: If a candidate loses access to their registered email ID but still has their mobile number, they can request an email ID change, with OTP sent to the mobile number for verification.
- Both Mobile and Email IDs: If a candidate loses access to both their registered mobile number and email ID, they must email UPSC at otrupsc@gov.in, providing supporting documents, including: Matriculation Certificate, Aadhaar card, PAN card, Passport, or Driving License, Recent passport-sized photograph and an undertaking.
Changes For PwBD Candidates in UPSC IAS Application Form 2025
UPSC has introduced provisions for eligible PwBD (Persons with Benchmark Disabilities) candidates, requiring those who wish to use their own scribe for the Civil Services Prelims exam to provide their details during the application process. The notice states, “The PwBD candidates, who wish to seek assistance of ‘own scribe’ for the CS (Main) exam, may voluntarily indicate the scribe details for CS (Main) while applying for CS (Prelim) exam."
