AIRSA once again urges UGC for NON-NET fellowship hike

All India Research Scholars Association (AIRSA) said that they have requested several times to UGC India secretary office for non-net fellowship hike but didn't get a positive response so far. They have requested UGC to consider their demand and take the necessary actions as soon as possible.

AIRSA tweet reads, "We have requested several time to the @ugc_india secretary office for NON-NET fellowship hike but we didn't get positive response so far."

The Association is demanding the revision of non-net fellowships. It said that the revision is stagnant since 2006 at INR 8000. It is crucial to address the matter and provide an equitable increase in fellowship grants for non-net-qualified research scholars, recognizing their valuable contributions to the research community, said AIRSA.

"The accomplishments, standards fulfilled and academic achievements of all PhD scholars remain identical, irrespective of whether they are non-net scholars or JRF scholars. Therefore, there is no valid justification for the disparity in stipend amounts. We strongly advocate for equal pay for all PhD scholars, which would be a fair and just move benefitting the research community as a whole," said AIRSA.

Other demands include the establishment of robust infrastructure and policies including creating a nurturing environment equipped with abundant resources, facilities, and opportunities to empower research scholars to excel in their endeavors. Also, AIRSA demanded equal HRA and Contingency and prompt address to the issue of increasing instances of harassment faced by PhD scholars.
