BHU celebrates 109th Foundation Day on Basant Panchami

Banaras Hindu University (BHU) celebrated its 109th Foundation Day yesterday along with the Basant Panchami. The event started with Vice-Chancellor Prof Sudhir Kumar Jain conducting a puja at the university's foundation stone.

After the puja, he emphasised the importance of nurturing students’ holistic development. He urged teachers to ensure their academic, intellectual, and professional advancement.

Reflecting on BHU’s founder Madan Mohan Malaviya’s philosophy, Prof Jain stressed the significance of multidisciplinary education, aligning with the objectives of the New Education Policy 2020. “New Education Policy 2020 paves the way for multi-disciplinary education and we must take full advantage of the opportunity to help students grow and excel,” said Prof Jain, as reported by Hindustan Times.

Saraswati puja celebrations were organized in various hostels on the campus. Also, a foundation day shobha yatra was taken out in which various institutes, faculties and units of the university showcased their achievements and specialities in the form of tableaux.

"I feel on Foundation Day, each one of us should introspect on whether we have done full justice to the dreams and aspirations with which our students take admission into BHU. They enter the portals of this university brimming with the hopes of achieving a bright future which will transform not only their own lives but also those of their families and communities," said the Vice-Chancellor.

"Education should never be conflated with mere classrooms because it is something beyond the passing of examinations. It is the power of discernment between right and wrong, the adoption of the correct attitude towards all aspects of life and the right way of living," added the VC.
