Delhi University Sets Guidelines for PhD Abroad, Approves Faculty Posts, M.Phil in Clinical Psychology

Extending the validity of M.Phil. in Medicine, the continuation of M.Phil in Clinical Psychology and Psychiatric Social till the academic session 2025-26 has also been approved by the Executive Council.

In a significant development during University of Delhi Executive Council (EC) meeting, one of the key highlights of the meeting was the formulation of rules governing the pursuit of PhDs from foreign universities by University of Delhi faculty members.

The EC approved guidelines that require faculty members seeking study leave for pursuing PhDs abroad to adhere to specific criteria. Notably, the foreign university's QS world ranking must not be lower than that of Delhi University. Additionally, faculty members must disclose details of stipends or fellowships received, and their salaries during the study leave will be determined according to existing university regulations.

Approval for posts for Faculty of Technology

Furthermore, the EC addressed the need for staffing within the Faculty of Technology, following the approval received from the Ministry of Education, Government of India. The meeting discussed the creation of teaching and non-teaching posts for the Faculty of Technology, a decision supported by the Finance Committee of the University in its recent meeting. This approval will lead to the appointment of 8 professors, 16 associate professors, and 48 assistant professors, along with 48 non-teaching positions across various roles within the Faculty of Technology.

In a separate development, the EC granted an extension for the continuation of M.Phil programs in specific fields until the academic session 2025-26. Notably, M.Phil programs in Medicine, Clinical Psychology, and Psychiatric Social Work will be extended. Vice Chancellor Prof. Yogesh Singh emphasized the crucial role played by clinical psychologists and psychiatric social workers in delivering mental health services, justifying the extension. However, in accordance with the National Education Policy-2020, M.Phil programs in other subjects have been discontinued at the University of Delhi. The decision to extend M.Phil in Clinical Psychology at IHBAS has been made on the recommendations of the UGC, serving as an interim measure until 2025-26.
