The exemption was made amid the state government's petition in favour of students seeking undergraduate course admission in Meghalaya and Nagaland.
The Central government have exempted students of Meghalaya and Nagaland from mandatorily appearing in the CUET UG exam for admission to central universities in the state. The North Eastern Hill University in Meghalaya and Nagaland University in Nagaland are central universities where students can get admission based on merit in the qualifying examination and no CUET UG scores are mandatory eligibility criteria for admission.
The Chief Minister of Meghalaya Conrad K Sangma has expressed his gratitude to Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan for exempting UG students from CUET for admission to colleges affiliated with North Eastern Hill University, as reported by NDTV.
"Happy to inform our students that admissions to affiliated colleges to Central University in Meghalaya have been exempted from CUET for this academic year. I thank @dpradhanbjp ji for his continuous support and understanding," the Meghalaya CM said in a post on X.
The exemption was made amid the state government's petition in favour of students seeking undergraduate course admission in Meghalaya and Nagaland.
"I am directed to inform that the UGC has already regarded the proposal received from the state of Meghalaya and Nagaland through the National Testing Agency and permitted affiliated colleges to take admission by giving exemption from CUET for the academic year 2024-25," a senior official of the Education Ministry notified.
Meghalaya, Nagaland Students Exempted from CUET UG for Admission
CUET UG examination was started on May 15 and it hit roadblocks in the states of Meghalaya and Assam. Meanwhile, the Meghalaya Education Minister Rakkam A Sangma notified that the state government had asked the NTA to either re-conduct the examination or to exempt Meghalaya and Nagaland from the entrance test.
