THE Asia University Rankings 2023: 4 Indian institutions among top 100; IISc at 48

JMI has moved upward to 128th rank in Asia with an improvement of 32 ranks from last year's rank.

As many as 18 Indian Universities have figured in the top 200 of the Asian Universities Rankings by Times Higher Education (THE). The Indian Institute of Science Bengaluru continues to be ranked as the best in India with a rank of 48.
THE Asia University Rankings 2023 has seen improvement in rankings of various Indian universities, however, the older IITs are still out of the rankings as they continue to boycott it. Since 2020, IIT Bombay, IIT Delhi, IIT Madras, IIT Kanpur, IIT Roorkee and IIT Kharagpur have boycotted THE Rankings.
The IISc Bengaluru is followed by JSS Academy of Higher Education and Research at 68, while Shoolini University of Biotechnology and Management Sciences has been ranked 77 and Mahatma Gandhi University is the other institute ranked under 100 and has a rank of 95.
Jamia Millia Islamia, Indian Institute of Technology Ropar; Indraprastha Institute of Information Technology Delhi; IIT Indore; Banaras Hindu University and Delhi Technological University are the other universities from India which have improved their rankings compared to their 2022 rank.
JMI has moved upward to 128th rank in Asia with an improvement of 32 ranks from last year's rank. The university has moved upward to the 128th rank in Asia and remarkably improved its position from the 160th rank last year. With an improvement of 32 ranks, JMI is one of the very few institutions in the country which has performed exceptionally well in the ranking.
JMI Vice Chancellor Prof. Najma Akhtar said, β€œIt is a matter of great pride and satisfaction for the whole Jamia fraternity as this achievement reflects the hard work put in by teachers, non-teaching staff and other stakeholders of the university. Our efforts have been recognized internationally and I hope that the university will continue its endeavours to improve its performance further in coming years.”
It is worth mentioning that JMI has been continuously improving its national and international ranking over the last few years. The university not only maintained 3rd rank among universities in the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) - India Rankings-2023 released by the Ministry of Education (MoE) but improved its performance by 13 positions to 12 in the overall category.
The Times Higher Education Asia University Rankings assessed the performance of 669 universities from 31 countries on the same 13 performance indicators/parameters as THE World University Rankings, but they were recalibrated to reflect the attributes of Asia’s institutions.
The universities were judged across all their core missions – teaching, research, knowledge transfer and international outlook – to provide the most comprehensive and balanced comparisons available. JMI has been consistently maintaining its rank in THE World University Rankings also. It was ranked 601-800 in the recently declared THE World University Rankings- 2021.
