Supreme Court asks AIIMS to follow roster-based allotment like JIPMER
Supreme Court has asked AIIMS to implement a roster system for the allocation of seats for institutional preference candidates who clear the INI-CET.
The Supreme Court has asked the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) to follow a roster based reservation as followed by the Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research, Puducherry (JIPMER).
"We direct that the roster point based reservation for preferential candidates as followed by JIPMER be implemented in all the AIIMS. However, the roster points need not be similar to that of JIPMER," said the court, as reported by Live Law.
The court was hearing a petition filed by medical students’ associations including the Association of Students of All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) of Bhopal and others that complained of not getting their favoured disciplines in AIIMS despite clearing the Institutes of National Importance Combined Entrance Test (INI-CET) as there is no mechanism of allotment of seats for institutional preference candidates.
AIIMS agrees to evolve roster point-based reservation for preferential candidates
AIIMS' counsel advocate Dushyant Parashar filed an affidavit agreeing to evolve a “roster point-based reservation for preferential candidates”, as reported by The Hindu.
However, AIIMS roster points will be different from that of JIPMER.
“Accepting the submissions made on behalf of the AIIMS, we direct that the roster point-based reservation for preferential candidates as followed by JIPMER shall be implemented in all the AIIMS institutes. However, the roster points need not be similar to that of JIPMER. This order shall be applicable for admission from this year,” said the court.
