Telangana to add 1200 additional MBBS seats from AY 2022-23
The state government is all set to add nearly 1200 MBBS seats from the academic year 2022-23.
Telangana government is working towards starting MBBS admission to eight new medical colleges in the state from the academic year 2022-23.
The medical aspirants seeking admission to Telangana medical colleges will get the option of 1200 more medical seats in the government medical colleges of the state from the academic year 2022-23. The state is expecting to get the nod from the National Medical Commission (NMC) soon.
Of the eight medical colleges, the NMC has already given permission to start four new medical colleges in Jagtial, Nagarkurnool, Sangareddy and Wanaparthy districts from this academic year while permissions for the remaining four in Mahabubabad, Mancherial, Kothagudem and Ramagundam are expected in the next few weeks, senior health officials said, as reported by Telangana Today.
Each of the eight medical colleges is expected to offer 150 MBBS seats, which will take the number of total MBBS seats to 1200. Currently, there are 1700 government MBBS seats available in the state and now this 1200 more seats will take the total number of MBBS seats in government colleges to 3000.
Eight more medical colleges to start from AY 2023-24
Apart from eight new medical colleges for this academic year, the state government is also planning to add eight more medical colleges in the next academic session 2023-24. The state government has announced to establish at least one medical college in each district of the state at a cost of over INR 1000 crore.
The Medical Assessment and Rating Board (MARB) of NMC recently sent the approval to start medical colleges in Wanaparthy and Sangareddy districts from the academic year 2022-23 with 150 MBBS seats each.
