GNM, or general nursing and midwifery, is a three-year programme that is followed by a six-month internship that must be focused on a specific area of nursing practice, such as childbirth, post-trauma, rehabilitation, mental health, data gathering, etc. It is a diploma-level programme appropriate for those looking to work as clinical nurses.
All Class 12 students may enrol in the GNM Nursing programme, but students who are majoring in science and taking biology are favoured. While the majority of other universities require 50% in Class 12, several of the top GNM colleges require a minimum of 60%. Entrance tests, practically all of which are state-level, are used for GNM admissions. The majority of Indian states have entry examinations for GNM Nursing programmes.
