UPSC agreed for an extra attempt in IAS exam 2021 for those candidates who had their last attempt last year and fulfil the age criteria given in the UPSC notification. The government on February 5 agreed in the Supreme Court for providing an extra attempt in the UPSC Civil Service exam 2021 to those candidates who had their last attempt in 2020 and otherwise eligible for the Civil Service Exam 2021.

The Government of India and Union Public Service Commission agreed to grant an extra attempt as one-time relaxation without changing the eligibility conditions for the Civil Service (IAS) exam 2021. This one-time relaxation was agreed after the repeated dates given by the UPSC. The Additional Solicitor General (ASG) of India SV Raju submitted before the court that this will be a onetime temporary arrangement limited to 2021 only.

Supreme Court adjourned the matter after directing the ASG to circulate the official note to all the parties involved in the case. The other party will read the official note and prepare its reply on the next hearing. The SC will hear the matter again on February 8. SC will decide the matter on February 8.

The government has provided no relaxation to those who became age barred this year and having their last attempt last year. This will be a matter of consideration because if the person was under constraints because of COVID-19 and become overage this year, then he or she should get an extra attempt.

The SC will decide the matter on February 8 after hearing all the parties again.
