ACLAT 2025 Syllabus: Alliance School of Law, Alliance University has not provided an official syllabus for the ACLAT 2025 exam. However, the exam consists of multiple-choice questions covering five subjects. Based on this structure, we have compiled a list of key topics and areas that aspirants should focus on to perform well in the ACLAT 2025 exam.

Q:   What is the format of the ACLAT exam?

A:

The ACLAT exam follows a specific format, which has been mentioned below:

  • Duration: 2 hours
  • Number of Questions: 200
  • Question Type: Multiple Choice (One mark each)
  • Marking Scheme: There's negative marking for incorrect answers (typically 0.25 marks deducted per wrong answer).
    The entire test is conducted online.

The question paper of the ACLAT exam will be based on the format or exam pattern mentioned above. The marking scheme provided here is used to evaluate candidates' performance in the exam.

Q:   What are the sections of the ACLAT 2025 exam?

A:

There are five sections in the ACLAT question papers for the LLM course: Language Profieciency, General Awareness, Legal Aptitude, Logical Reasoning and Analytical Ability, an Numbercial Ability. These sections have been described below: 

1. Language Profieciency (40 questions):

Focuses on your proficiency in the Language Profieciency, essential for comprehending legal texts and communication in the legal field.

Possible question types:

  • Reading comprehension: Passages followed by questions testing your understanding and analysis of the content.
  • Vocabulary: Identifying synonyms, antonyms, and the correct usage of words in legal contexts.
  • Grammar: Testing knowledge of tenses, subject-verb agreement, and sentence structure.
  • Error identification and correction in sentences.

2. General Awareness (50 questions):

Assesses your awareness of current affairs, historical events, and general information about the world.

Possible question areas:

  • Indian Polity: The Constitution, government structure, fundamental rights, etc.
  • History: Indian and world history with a focus on legal milestones.
  • Geography: Knowledge of Indian and world geography.
  • Science: Basic scientific concepts relevant to law.
  • Current Affairs: Recent national and international events with legal implications.

3.Logical Reasoning and Analytical Ability (45 questions):

Logical reasoning and analytical ability are important skills for many aspects of life, including education, career, and everyday decision-making. They are the foundation for critical thinking, problem-solving, and effective communication. Here are some of the important topics in logical reasoning and analytical ability:

  • Deductive Reasoning
  • Inductive Reasoning
  • Syllogisms
  • Logical Fallacies
  • Analytical Reasoning

4. Numerical Ability (25 questions):

Evaluates your problem-solving skills and logical reasoning abilities.

Possible question types:

  • Simplification of complex numbers.
  • Ratio & Proportion: Solving problems involving ratios and proportions.
  • Percentage problems: Calculating percentages, profit and loss, etc.

Q:   What is the syllabus & exam pattern of the ACLAT? What should my preparation strategy be?

A:
1. Language Proficiency - Brush up your Basic English and comprehension to prepare for this section. 2. General Awareness - This is a very wide category and covers a lot of topics, including Science and basic history, geography. It will also include general knowledge (both static and current). It is advisable to pick a guide for general knowledge and go through it. 3. Legal Aptitude - Legal Aptitude - Will include some landmark judgments, basic provisions of the Constitution, important provisions of some Acts like Contract Act, Transfer of Property Act, etc. 4. Logical Reasoning and Analytical Ability - Practice makes perfect, especially for this section. 5. Numerical Ability - Brush up basic math till class 10th. That should be sufficient. This are does not carry a lot of weight so care should be taken not to spend a lot of time on it if the questions seem difficult. Preparation: Pick up universal Guide to LL.B. And prepare from it, cover to cover. Once you are through with that, you can pick up other books focusing on separate areas to hone them better.

There is no upper age limit for candidates to get admission to LLM programme through ACLAT. They only need to meet the ACLAT eligibility criteria, crack the entrance and obtain marks equal to or greater than the ACLAT cutoff for admission.
