Q:   Is Birsa Agricultural University good for B.Sc.?

    A:
    {Source: B.Sc. students & alumni}

Birsa Agricultural University (BAU) offers a Bachelor's degree in Science (B.Sc.) in Agriculture, which prepares students for careers in the field of agriculture. While BAU has its strengths and weaknesses, here are some key points to consider:

Placement and Internship Opportunities: Placement opportunities are limited, with only a handful of students getting placed every year. The highest salary package offered is around INR2 Lacs per annum, while the lowest is around INR20,000 per month. Some students have reported receiving internships with government PSUs, but the opportunities are scarce.

Teaching Faculty: Most students and alumni praise the faculty for being knowledgeable, helpful, and motivational. However, some feel that older teachers lack innovative approaches to teaching.

Infrastructure and Facilities: The university has a decent infrastructure, with Wi-Fi facilities, digital classrooms, libraries, and laboratories. However, the hostel infrastructure is subpar, with limited single rooms and poor maintenance.

Curriculum Relevance: The course curriculum is considered relevant and covers a wide range of topics in agriculture. Practical classes are essential components of the program.

Overall Rating: Based on student feedback, the overall rating for BAU's B.Sc. programme is mediocre. While the faculty is generally praised, the limited placement opportunities and subpar infrastructure are significant drawbacks.

Recommendation: If you're interested in pursuing a career in agriculture, BAU might be a suitable choice. However, it's essential to weigh the pros and cons carefully and consider alternative options. Additionally, students should be prepared for limited placement opportunities and focus on developing skills outside of academics to enhance their employability prospects.

Here are the bullet points summarizing the key findings:

    * Limited placement opportunities with a median salary package of around INR2 Lacs per annum
    * Decent infrastructure with Wi-Fi facilities, digital classrooms, and libraries
    * Knowledgeable and helpful faculty, although some older teachers may lack innovation
    * Relevant curriculum covering a wide range of topics in agriculture
    * Subpar hostel infrastructure with limited single rooms
    * Overall rating: mediocre due to limited placement opportunities and infrastructure issues

Placement Cell Support for B.Sc. Students at Birsa Agricultural University

Based on the reviews and feedback from students and alumni, here's how the placement cell supports B.Sc. students at Birsa Agricultural University:

    * Internship opportunities: The college provides compulsory internships for final-year students, which helps them gain hands-on experience in various companies (both paid and unpaid).
    * Limited campus placements: Although the placement cell is active, major agricultural companies rarely visit the campus for recruitment. However, some students may get placed with lower packages.

Note: The placement cell's performance seems to be limited, and more efforts are needed to improve campus recruitments.

I am satisfied with this college.
Placements: Top roles offered are forest ranger, forest guard, scientist, and professor. The average salary package offered is 2 LPA. The lowest salary offered is Rs. 20,000 per month. The highest salary package offered ranges between 2.4 LPA - 24 LPA. Almost 100% of students got internships with good stipends. All India tour is associated with our course.
Infrastructure: The infrastructure of our college is good. Our college provides us with all facilities. A gymnasium is available in our college. The food served in the mess is good. The ambulance is available 24X7. Our college has good security. The library has many books, journals, biographies, and tour experiences written by our seniors and professors. Our college is Wi-Fi enabled. Classrooms are equipped with air-conditioners, smart boards, and projectors.
Faculty: Our professors are good. They teach us very well. They conduct practical sessions. They organise industrial visits. We have visited many forests. Exams are difficult. They conduct curriculum activities.
    Other: Our college has greenery.

Good but Improvement required in the recruitment of teaching faculty.
Placements: Around 50% of the students were placed this year. The highest package was around 5lpa, 2lpa being the lowest. And 3 LPA is the average package here. Top companies recruiting our students include NHAI, FAO, Forest Corporation. Not much internship opportunities are available in campus. However, plenty companies offer internship off campus. Top roles offered in our course consist of ATM (Assistant technology manager), BTM ( Block Technology manager), etc.
Infrastructure: Library facilities with free Wi-Fi, computers and Xerox facilities are available. Classrooms are equipped with smartclasses for smooth teaching. Plenty of labs available. Our hostels are equipped with gym, sports complex and the quality of food in our mess is decent. Medical facilities with ambulance are easily available. Every year annual sports meet is conducted.
Faculty: The teachers are highly qualified and professional. However due to the constraint of limited availability of professors, they are overburdened. Hence their efficiency decreases. Absolutely, infact there is an increasing demand for such courses in the upcoming time. If you study diligently, passing the semester exams would be no big deal for you. As of now, passing percentage is 95%. .
Other: One of the reasons why I chose this course was that it gives me the opportunity of working with the environment closely. It provides us with on ground experience of closely working with industry experts. I just wish we had more young professionals who could lead the upcoming batch of students. Regular concerts and events are organised. Annual sports meet happen every year. Conference rooms available for seminars, quizzes and debate competitions are regularly held.

    BAU glance and its functioning.
Placements: Placements are not up to the mark. Not many companies visit for campus placements. Only a few students will get placed with a very low package. The new placement cell is active but still major agricultural companies do not visit for campus drive. But an internship is compulsory for last year's students which is provided by the college itself in various companies which is unpaid or paid.
Infrastructure: This college has a decent infrastructure, college is equipped with Wi-Fi and has a well-maintained library which is open till 10 pm for boys and 8 pm for girls. Hostel infrastructure is bad, there is a scarcity of single rooms in boy's hostels and the same in girls' hostels. But the hostel fee is very less so it is adjustable.
Faculty: The faculty is impressive most of them, as they are scientist, the curriculum is very vast, as in each semester we have to study 9-10 subjects which are quite lengthy for a semester, exams are not so hard if we study regularly. But practical is the area which needs to be strengthened.
Other: The fee which I describe here is for 4 years including the hostel fee but excluding the mess fee which is about 3000 per month mess fee.

It is the best college for UG and PG courses.
Placements: It is an agricultural university in Jharkhand. There are 4 branches of agriculture, which include Ranchi, Godda, Deoghar, and Garhwa. Placements are not good in our college. If you study in Ranchi, then you may get good placement opportunities. Otherwise, if you study in Garhwa, you may have a low chance to get placements. Our college does not approach placements.
Infrastructure: Our college provides good facilities like a hostel, Wi-Fi, etc. The lab should get improved. Medical facilities are not good. An ambulance is available in our college. You cannot play games in our college. A first aid box is available in our college. For any emergency, you have to book a van or auto because there is no driver in our college.
Faculty: Faculty members are fair and supportive. They are very knowledgeable and helpful. They are available 24X7 for every student. They always motivate students to do other curriculum activities. Professors are strict during exams because they put in the effort to provide us with more knowledge. The pass percentage is 50%.

Our college is for advancement in life.
Placements: About 80% of the students from our course got placed. The highest salary package offered in our course is 15 LPA, and the lowest salary package offered is 10 LPA. Top recruiting companies like FCI, Nestlé, Hindustan Unilever, etc., visit our campus for placements. Almost 90% of students get an internship in the government PSU of the agriculture ministry. A top role offered in our course is food processing.
Infrastructure: Our college provides a Wi-Fi facility all over campus, mainly in classrooms, a lab, hostel, library, and courtyard. It provides high-tech equipment in labs. Classrooms are fully digital. The library has all the books. The quality of food served in a mess and canteen is good. It provides all outdoor and indoor games. We have a good temporary sick room for an emergency.
Faculty: Teachers in our college are very helpful and give much motivation. All teachers are qualified. Maximum teachers are PhD holders. The course curriculum is relevant in the industrial area, mainly in food processing. Semester exams are tough, and we get a high level of the question paper. The pass percentage is 33%.

    Dissatisfied because of placement area.
Placements: Okay, so after competing your graduation form this college, it is necessary to do M.Sc. or prepare for other competitive exams because here you are not going to be placed in any company or get some internship by this college. No placement for B.Sc. students. College needs to work on it.
Infrastructure: Wi-Fi is only available for M.Sc. student here. Hostels are good in condition. Library have a good amount of books. Labs are not in good condition. Mess is private and works by their own rules. Food quality is average. Medical facilities are not available. Sports and games event done by the students .
Faculty: Some teachers are best but they are very close to their retirement. And some are busy with their own projects. Here almost all students get passed by time very minimum number of students get back semester or fail. But this course make student ready for industrial work.
Other: So this is the 1st college of forest in Jharkhand, Bihar so as that aspect this place needs to improve their campus surrounding.
