Q. How do I get into MGKVP for PhD?

A. Students seeking admission to PhD at MGKVP are required to visit the official website of the university, i.e., www.mgkvp.ac.in and register for the RET exam by adding all the required details. After registration, students must fill out the RET application form by adding al the required details, upload the scanned copy of their photograph and signature and pay the application fee. This application fee is non-refundable under all circumstances. All the students seeking admission to a PhD must appear for this entrance exam. However, there is an option for students who have appeared for UGC NET, JRF, GATE and NET exams to skip the RET exam conducted by the university provided they meet the minimum requirements of eligibility in these exams.

Q. Can I get direct admission for PhD at MGKVP?

A. The students seeking admission to a PhD must appear for RET (Research Entrance Test) conducted by the university. However, there is an option for students who have appeared for UGC NET, JRF, GATE and NET exams to skip the RET exam conducted by the university provided they meet the minimum requirements of eligibility in these exams. To be eligible for this course, however, students must have completed their postgraduate degree in the relevant subject with at least 55% aggregate. Additionally, those who have completed an MPhil degree with 55% aggregate are also eligible to apply for this course.

Q. Is MGKVP a good university for PhD?

A. MGKVP is one of the oldest universities in Uttar Pradesh that offers a doctoral-level PhD programme across 36 specialisations. With a huge variety of subjects and specialisations, this course is offered across numerous streams of Science, Humanities, Management and Commerce subjects. The availability of diverse specialisations and seat intake up to 60 for a few specialisations proves that MGKVP is selected by good number of students every year. In addition to this, the students of Uttar Pradesh with state domicile are also eligible for various scholarship options available only for PhD students.

Q. What is the pattern of RET exam conducted by MGKVP for PhD admission?

A. The RET exam paper is divided into two sections/papers. The details are as follows:

The first section/paper will include questions around General Awareness, Aptitude, Academic and related issues. There will be a total of 10 questions. All the questions will be of one mark and the students will get a total of two hours to finish this exam.
The second section/ paper will be inclusive is research aptitude-based questions. There will be a total of 200 questions of one mark each.

There will be no negative marking for both papers and students are required to get at least 40% scores in both individual papers. However, the total qualifying score is 50% of the overall score.

Q. What is the eligibility criteria for PhD at MGKVP?

A. The minimum eligibility criteria to pursue PHD at MGKVP is that students must have completed their UG and PG degrees with a minimum aggregate of 55%. Those who have done an MPhil degree with 55% aggregate are, however, also eligible for admission to this course. Final admission to PhD is subject to the Research Entrance Test (RET) conducted by the MGKVP. However, students who have More details on the eligibility conditions of appearing for UGC NET, JRF, GATE and NET exams and have a valid core in the same are exempted from RET.
