A Common Admission Test (MGU CAT) is used for the purpose of the MG University application procedure for all courses offered on the university campus. To apply for any of the programmes, candidates must first register online at the MGU CAT official website. Admission to this PG-level course is through a Centralised Allotment Process (CAP). For selection, candidates have to take the MGU CAT exam, which is conducted in-house. Based on the candidates' score in the entrance examination, a selection list is released by the university. Candidates who make it to the list become eligible for participation in the counselling round. The seats are allotted after document verification during counselling.

MGU CAT exam has 80 MCQs with four choices for each question. Each correct answer carries one mark and there is negative score for incorrect answers. The entrance exam duration is 90 minutes.
