Q:   How is the overall infrastructure of NIT Durgapur?

    A:
    {Source: M.Sc. students & alumni]

NIT Durgapur has a vibrant campus life, offering multiple sports facilities and a diverse range of extracurricular activities. The dress code is flexible, and students can wear whatever they prefer. However, there are restrictions on the outside movement of girls within specific timings. The college has a moderately busy event calendar, with one to three events taking place every month. The mess food is of acceptable quality and hygiene standards. Attendance policies are strictly enforced, and students who violate rules may face penalties. There is no language barrier in the college, and both local and non-local students are welcomed. The academic schedule is relatively hectic, with more than 15 lectures per week, and exams are held semesterly. Teaching methodologies involve practical discussions around case studies, and well-stocked libraries provide ample research resources. Security measures include guards and CCTV cameras, and outsiders cannot enter the campus without permission. The college takes a strong stance against ragging and has strict policies in place to prevent such incidents.

Based on the reviews provided, the overall infrastructure of National Institute of Technology (NIT) Durgapur is good to excellent. Reviewers praised the campus's Wi-Fi and CCTV coverage, well-equipped laboratories and modern academic buildings. Some reviewers mentioned that the hostel facilities were good, with no restrictions for M.Tech and M.Sc. students, although some found the sports facilities to be lacking. Additionally, the library was noted to be well-stocked and the dining experience was described as "best for the price."

Summary: NIT Durgapur has a good to excellent infrastructure, with well-maintained academic buildings, well-equipped laboratories and sufficient hostel accommodations. While some reviewers noted that the sports facilities could be improved, the general consensus is that the college offers a comfortable and supportive learning environment.

I am satisfied with good facilities, very good hostels, a good campus, good placements in 2020, etc.
Placements: I did not apply for placements because I wanted to go for higher studies. Companies like Flipkart, Amazon, etc., came here. The highest salary package offered was 36 LPA, and the lowest was 6 LPA.
Infrastructure: Hostels were very good. Most IITs did not provide such facilities. The library was very big and comfortable. Classrooms were very big. Each had the capacity to hold 100 students. Wi-Fi was available throughout the campus. LAN cables were also available.
Faculty: Exams were tough. They helped a lot to develop a strong mindset. Courses were very helpful for passing exams like GATE, NET, and CAT. Students felt very thankful after this course because it helped them a lot for placements or any higher education.
Other: The campus was very good.

The campus life is really enjoyable. There should be better sports facilities.
Placements: Well, to be honest, I will say that because we admitted to M.Sc. Physics course most of us are interested in Ph.D. There are only 17 students are present in our batch. In the 1st year of course three of our batch mate got Net Jrf and around 10-12 students are focusing on Net. Rest 2-3 are intended to seat in place meant and out of three one got Akash Byjus and other are trying to be placed. For M.Sc. course only educational companies are coming. The average package is about 9lpa.
Infrastructure: The infrastructure are really good as compared to other NITs. Whole campus is under Wi-Fi and CCTV. As per my knowledge labs are highly equipped with advanced machines. For classroom there is a separate building call New academic building. For B.Tech students hostel facility are god but there are several restrictions for them. But for M.Tech and M.Sc. Students there are no restriction in Hostel. Well, sports facilities are not that good. There are two big grounds and a indoor stadium but me personally is not satisfied with the facility. There is a Gym centre also.
Faculty: Well, teachers are highly qualified, helpful and knowledgeable. Well, I don't know about other subjects but for M.Sc. course the course curriculum is really relevant for further studies like Ph.D. Semester exams are not that difficult. If you attend every class then you will easily get 7 CGPA.
Other: I was interested in Physics. Just there should be a central lab facility. Events happen at regular interval.

Review of NIT Durgapur - National Institute of Technology.
Placements: Currently, out of 20 pupils, 4 have been placed via on-campus placements in various ed-tech companies like Sri Chaitanya, C. V. Raman Academy, etc. Still, some other companies such as FIITJEE and others are yet to come. The highest package offered was of 6.5 LPA. Generally, teaching jobs have been offered, and there is a bond of minimum 2 years in each case.
Infrastructure: AC classrooms with projectors and sound systems along with Wi-Fi. Library has adequate books. Hostels are little bit old-fashioned but single rooms are provided. Mess food is of average quality. Medical facilities are provided every day both at emergency and outdoor.
Faculty: Teachers try to put their level best to encourage students. Some are good but others are below average. Course is a little bit old-fashioned and bulk. Only two specializations exist, optoelectronics and condensed matter, and they are not industry-friendly in most cases. Semester exams are easy to pass because questions are asked only from class notes. Essential qualification to obtain an M.Sc. degree is to score a GPA of 5.0 on a 10 point scale.
Other: Several tech fests and cultural fests, such as Aarohan, Vistar, etc., are organized throughout the year by the student governing body. Religious festivals like Onam, Eid, Ram Navami, Makar Sankranti are observed with proper dignity. The campus is near the vibrant city center of Durgapur, so anyone can access any metropolitan amenities whenever they want to.

Our college needs improvements in PG.
Placements: Our college provides only a few placements for M.Sc students when compared to other colleges. A few students got placed in Byju's with salary package of 7 LPA and 9 LPA. The top role offered is an assistant lecturer. Our college provides good internships to students.
Infrastructure: Medical facilities are good. They provide us with free treatment for minor injuries and illnesses. The mess is good. Wi-Fi has good coverage in the hostel ( Hall 5 ). The lab and classrooms are good in the biotech department. Sports and games facilities are excellent for interested people.
Faculty: Professors in the biotech/Science department are skilled in their respective fields of study. The course curriculum is under current biotech research and industry. Semester exams are difficult as most questions are analytical.
Other: IITs and NITs are the best options for career development, so I chose it. NIT Durgapur is relatively better than most private universities. NIT Durgapur needs to improve placements for PG biotech/life Science students, as it's really low compared to UG placements. In our college, fests are held, so students can enjoy their life while developing their careers.

    M.Sc. in Physics - Batch of 2021
    4.2
    2Placements4Infrastructure5Faculty5Crowd & Campus Life5Value for Money
It is a great place for M.Sc physics.
Placements: There were not many placements available for masters in pure science. Most of the students of our batch opted for Ph.D. or further studies. Some were even taking coaching for exams CSIR, NET, GATE, or even for IELETS or GRE, etc. I heard about JEE coaching coming to campus, but that did not happen in our batch. The campus placements were 0% for the particular course, and around 25% of students were selected for Ph.D. Internships were available for everyone if students want to do one.
Infrastructure: It was good for an M.Sc. physics student. The batch was smaller, and ours was 13 as compared to other NITs. The student-teacher ratio was 1:1. So students get to know everyone and every professor will know them, which increases the efficiency. The classroom was small but good as it was a national institute. There were seminar rooms and many laboratories in the department, but optoelectronics and condensed matter laboratories were great. Better than nuclear laboratories were not many facilities available. Wi-Fi was fully available. The library was good. Besides the central library, there was a departmental library from where students can borrow books and keep them for a semester. The hostel was good. There were 3 sharing rooms, but students will find 2 people in most of them i.e now single rooms may be allotted due to corona. Food quality was best for the price. Students will be never disappointed with the food, after some months students will be fed-up with the same. But students can opt for other canteens as they had to pay on daily basis for food. In pre-covid time, it was Rs 100 per day for 3 times food. Medical, sports, games, gym, etc., were also available.
Faculty: Teachers were helpful and highly qualified. They were knowledgeable except for very few numbers. Students will get the reason as well if they join, but it was not the place to discuss that aspect. The course curriculum was extremely relevant and much helpful, specifically, if students were appearing in any national level exams for Ph.D. it's gonna help students a lot. Semester exams were moderate. They ask what they weree taught and some problems. The pass percentage was more than 95%. But the only thing they strictly follow was attendance. One of our batchmates was fired as he has less than 50% of attendance.
Other: The cost was low, if students compare to other NITs, it was almost half. I wish there would more research exposure to other areas. There were many fests generally four fests in a year, which always happen in even semesters. The campus will make students fall in love with it. Here students get the freedom to do what they want and they promote a wide range of extracurricular activities from dancing, singing, acting, learning musical instruments to sports.

    M.Sc. in Mathematics - Batch of 2022
    4.4
    4Placements4Infrastructure5Faculty4Crowd & Campus Life5Value for Money
NITDGP has one of the best faculty for mathematics.
Placements: M.Sc is a research-orientated course, so most of the students who took admission in M.Sc. want to go for further studies like PhDs in their field. Most of the students go for PhD, but a few students opt for campus placements. So, they work on their coding and programming skills to get placed. If you want to get placed, then you will have to study programming languages and coding very well. Overall, many reputed companies like Amazon, Flipkart, HCL, TCS, Paytm, etc., visit the campus every year.
Infrastructure: The college infrastructure is very good. As it is one of the oldest NITs, the campus library has lots of books. The labs are very good. The campus has free Wi-Fi for the students to make their study easier. There are seven hostels available on the campus for students. Every hostel provides three-seater rooms for UG and PG students. The hostel for PhD students has single-seater rooms. The mess food is overall good.
Faculty: As I am from the department of mathematics, I will say that all the faculty members are good and helpful. You can ask them every single problem you are facing with your studies, and they will always try to solve that problem. All the faculty members are well educated, and their teaching quality is very good. You will get homework and many projects and assignments after every class.
Other: As we all know, Maths students always have lots of opportunities. But you will have to recognize your area of interest. The mathematics course is well-designed for students. The campus has approximately 4,000 students in overall courses. But there are 21 students in my batch. There are many college fests every year. Aarohan is the annual fest of NITDGP.
