I am decently satisfied with our college.
Placements: Placements differ from batch to batch. Placements for the 2021 batch are not completed yet. Around 31 students out of the entire batch of 2020 got placed in companies like Khaitan and Co, L&L Partners, Argus Partners, Fox Mandal and Co and Aquilaw.
Infrastructure: We have a temporary library in 3 rooms now, and the building is being built. It is open till 3 am. NLUO has a bank ATM, Nescafe, stationery and printing shop, canteen and mess, juice shop and a decent gym. The mess is student-run, and there is a good quality of food.
Faculty: The course curriculum is relevant and taught well. There is a lot of flexibility in class timings, which allows us to prioritise moots, debates, research and internships. Classes are conducted from 9 am to 1 pm and 10 am to 2 pm for offline college. Online classes are from 9 am to 4:15 pm on weekdays and 9 am to 1 pm on weekends.

Our college is disillusioned, but a reality for most universities.
Placements: Most of the students get placed from our college. However, in the recent batches, placements have been getting better, with dozens being recruited from on-campus recruitments. L&L, Khaitan, CAM, and SAM are some of the major recruiters. The average salary package offered ranges from 12 LPA - 14 LPA. The internship committee has been very active since 2018, and in 2019. More than 60 internships were secured for winter and summer internships each.
Infrastructure: The Wi-Fi is adequate and is available for multiple devices (earlier it was one device per student). Classrooms are good, though maintenance is needed. Bathrooms in the academic block are in bad shape, though those in hostels are good and maintained properly. The library is congested as two classrooms have been converted into libraries. There is a huge building under construction for years now to be the library. Optimistically, the PWD has taken up construction, and it shows positive steps of actually being completed in very few years. The hostel is somewhat good, and you get single occupancy rooms. Structural problems like leakage of water are prevalent in the older buildings, especially the girls hostels. The mess is pretty damn good. The mess committee is made up of students, and every day the food served is different. Non-vegetarian food is served thrice in a week, usually at nights. Medical facilities have been sorely lacking for a long time and only recently have positive steps being taken. There are many ambulances, medicines, etc. Sports facilities are moderate. We also have 2 basketball courts and two courts for tennis, badminton and volleyball. Space for the football field is available, but it has not been worked on. Those who play cricket usually go to the Barabati Stadium on the university bus.
Faculty: Some teachers in our college are amazing and make you critically analyse what you study. Many of the good faculty members have left for various reasons, but some remain that give hope. The course curriculum, in general, is unchanged. The chronology of subjects taught is confusing. However, teachers themselves update their lesson plans regularly. It doesn't seem that other universities are much better off, as everything falls on the teachers in charge and how they handle it all.
Other: Mooting culture is very strong, though institutional support is not very encouraging. The diversity among students make it an interesting place to say the least - you get to adult. The campus is isolated and is located on the outskirts of the town. The safety outside campus is not guaranteed, but it is safe inside. The campus is large enough, with plenty of trees around and two rivers flanking either side.

Impressive placements in 2023.
Placements: Out of 80 students who participated in the recruitment process, 71 were placed in the 2023 batch. The average package was 11.7 LPA. The highest package stood at 18 LPA. The top recruiters were Trilegal, Luthra and Luthra, Induslaw, Khaitan & Co., and Saraf and Partners.
Infrastructure: The college has a very decent infrastructure. It has Wi-Fi all over the campus. NLUO has Asia's biggest law library with centralized AC. Except for the hostel, you will find centralized AC on campus. It has 3 canteens, one of which works during the day and the other two during the night, along with one Nescafe shop and a juice centre. The mess food is average. The college has one outdoor sports court, a sports room for indoor sports, one cricket ground, and a football field with a gym.
Faculty: The teachers are highly qualified here, but sometimes there is a disturbance in the classes due to repetitive changes of professors. The professors are also available after college hours for any doubt-solving sessions. The course is well updated according to the needs of the legal industry, and it has 6 subjects per semester. In NLUO, there are only two end-of-semester exams per semester, which are 70 marks in theory and 30 marks in project and viva. The passing marks are 49.5 out of 100, which is approximately 50%.

NLUO is a good place, if not the best.
Placements: The placements here are on initial stages. In a law school, placements are mostly dependent on the alumni base, since this is a newly established law school. The alumni base is not that strong if you compare it to the same of top 5, though the future of placements in our college is very bright, by the time I'll complete my graduation, it'll become super strong. This year, we have got almost 70% students placed in various law firms, and other legal entities on an average placement package of 7-9 lakhs per annum whereas the highest package offered were around 20 lakhs per annum. Mostly all the renowned law firms picked students from our college.
Infrastructure: The infrastructure is certainly the best part about NLUO. Not only the infrastructure inside the college, but the scenic beauty outside the college is also something worth noticing, absolutely zero pollution area with lush green forest and bank of Mahanadi and Kathajodi river. We've 24 hours working highspeed Wi-Fi on the campus. All the students have given separate ID and password to access that. There's no limit on usage of it. The classrooms are well-furnished occupied with all the necessary engagements in a modern classroom with air-conditioners. The library is small, but it's full of books. I've never seen a situation where I don't get a seat to sit, and in case of that, one can easily go to classrooms which are right in front of the library and can be opened at any hours of the allowed library visit. Apart from this, we also have one under construction library which is going to be Asia's biggest law library. The sports and games are also something that can't be compromised within a residential institute and will not disappoint you. We have a dedicated sports complex for all sort of sports like volleyball, basketball, tennis, etc. We also have our own cricket field but that remains unused due to some unavoidable reasons but we get ample of space to play a full boundary match, and for all the tournaments we've several grounds near to college, which mostly do the work. For all football enthusiasts, our football team is one among the best, every evening college bus takes you to the football ground and drops you back at the college once the practice is done. The hostels are great, very neat and clean with regular cleaning staff. Rooms have enough space for all your essentials, mess, in comparison to another college is great. You won't fall sick by eating mess food as generally happens since the mess menu is a bit inspired by south Indian cuisine. You might take a week or two to develop that taste else the mess is great, and it's a total student-run body. Apart from the under construction library, most ambitious project, there are no issues in regards to infrastructure.
Faculty: Nluo offers two sorts of courses, i.e. UG and PG. UG course offers five-year LL.B. program which can be pursued either with B.A. or B.B.A. Under PG programs, you can go for either LL.M. or PhD. Most of the faculty are good and dedicated. You won't like them at some point in time because of their rude behaviour or arbitrary nature, but at the same time, you need to understand this is something that eventually makes us better only. You won't really like few of the faculty members, and that should happen, you just can't find everyone perfect, and this is something that you've to tackle on your own only. The faculty-student ratio in initial semesters is quite high because there are very few law subjects. The non-law subjects aren't something that requires the class to be divided into sections and then to be taught. You won't face this problem ever in a law school because the number of students will lead to better discussions and debates and that's all. You're supported to do as a lawyer and particularly as a law student, as soon as the more law subjects are introduced. The class will be bifurcated into two. Admin is very helpful in providing you with all sort of exposure that is required in the profession, and we've all the committees and important legal cells for better and practical exposure, we also have something which is not everywhere, i.e. maritime law centre, used for research in maritime law.
Other: Overall, it is certainly a good college if not the best place to be. It offers your every single thing that might improve you as a lawyer, and infrastructure is one among the best of all. The faculty is also okay. Exposures for mooting and all is great, seniors are very helpful, no issues of ragging or anything which can potentially distract you from the purpose. It's totally up to you that how do you utilise everything and get the best out of it.

A great upcoming NLU with competent faculties, well stocked library and a good atmosphere
Placements: The placements at NLUO have been improving by leaps and bounds every year. It has been doing better than most other NLUs that were established earlier to NLUO. The highest package offered was close to 18L. Atleast, that's what I have heard from several sources. The average ranges from 10-12L.
Infrastructure: The infrastructure is good. Students get individual rooms in the hostel which is unique because mostly students get double sharing or triple sharing in the NLUs. Classrooms do have ACs but sometimes the management is too stingy with the usage. The college is building a huge building that will exclusively be used as library. We have a nice auditorium with a good seating capacity and a nice sports complex. The university has a sprawling campus so taking a walk around the campus early in the morning and evening is refreshing.
Faculty: The faculty is a mixed bag really. That's the scenario in every college, including the best colleges. The faculties at NLUO are well qualified and most of them have a very friendly approach towards the students which ensures there's no communication gap. The course curriculum is very much line with the industry standards and trains one for the days ahead.

Q:   What are the factors affecting B.A LL.B cutoff 2024 at NLUO?

A:

Every year, the cut off marks for the NLUO BA LLB CLAT scores are affected due to the following factors:

  • The difficulty level of the exam. In case the question paper is easy then the CLAT cut offs are expected to go high and vice-versa.
  • Total number of applications received. If the total applications received are less then the cut off is expected to be relaxed.
  • Total candidates qualifying CLAT exam. If the total number of qualifying candidates is less than the total seats then cut off goes low
  • Total number of seats. If the total number of seats is revised and increased then cut off is expected to remain low
  • Previous year cut offs. For the top NLUs, the cut-off marks in previous years were high, therefore, only topper candidates could make it for final admissions. Fore other NLUs, the cut off marks are relatively low.

Q:   Can I join NLUO directly?

A:

No, you cannot join National Law University Odisha (NLUO) directly. NLUO only admits students to its undergraduate law programs through the Common Law Admission Test (CLAT), a national-level entrance exam. The CLAT is a highly competitive exam, and only a small percentage of candidates are admitted to NLUO each year.
