I am decently satisfied with our college.
Placements: Placements differ from batch to batch. Placements for the 2021 batch are not completed yet. Around 31 students out of the entire batch of 2020 got placed in companies like Khaitan and Co, L&L Partners, Argus Partners, Fox Mandal and Co and Aquilaw.
Infrastructure: We have a temporary library in 3 rooms now, and the building is being built. It is open till 3 am. NLUO has a bank ATM, Nescafe, stationery and printing shop, canteen and mess, juice shop and a decent gym. The mess is student-run, and there is a good quality of food.
Faculty: The course curriculum is relevant and taught well. There is a lot of flexibility in class timings, which allows us to prioritise moots, debates, research and internships. Classes are conducted from 9 am to 1 pm and 10 am to 2 pm for offline college. Online classes are from 9 am to 4:15 pm on weekdays and 9 am to 1 pm on weekends.

Our college is disillusioned, but a reality for most universities.
Placements: Most of the students get placed from our college. However, in the recent batches, placements have been getting better, with dozens being recruited from on-campus recruitments. L&L, Khaitan, CAM, and SAM are some of the major recruiters. The average salary package offered ranges from 12 LPA - 14 LPA. The internship committee has been very active since 2018, and in 2019. More than 60 internships were secured for winter and summer internships each.
Infrastructure: The Wi-Fi is adequate and is available for multiple devices (earlier it was one device per student). Classrooms are good, though maintenance is needed. Bathrooms in the academic block are in bad shape, though those in hostels are good and maintained properly. The library is congested as two classrooms have been converted into libraries. There is a huge building under construction for years now to be the library. Optimistically, the PWD has taken up construction, and it shows positive steps of actually being completed in very few years. The hostel is somewhat good, and you get single occupancy rooms. Structural problems like leakage of water are prevalent in the older buildings, especially the girls hostels. The mess is pretty damn good. The mess committee is made up of students, and every day the food served is different. Non-vegetarian food is served thrice in a week, usually at nights. Medical facilities have been sorely lacking for a long time and only recently have positive steps being taken. There are many ambulances, medicines, etc. Sports facilities are moderate. We also have 2 basketball courts and two courts for tennis, badminton and volleyball. Space for the football field is available, but it has not been worked on. Those who play cricket usually go to the Barabati Stadium on the university bus.
Faculty: Some teachers in our college are amazing and make you critically analyse what you study. Many of the good faculty members have left for various reasons, but some remain that give hope. The course curriculum, in general, is unchanged. The chronology of subjects taught is confusing. However, teachers themselves update their lesson plans regularly. It doesn't seem that other universities are much better off, as everything falls on the teachers in charge and how they handle it all.
Other: Mooting culture is very strong, though institutional support is not very encouraging. The diversity among students make it an interesting place to say the least - you get to adult. The campus is isolated and is located on the outskirts of the town. The safety outside campus is not guaranteed, but it is safe inside. The campus is large enough, with plenty of trees around and two rivers flanking either side.

Impressive placements in 2023.
Placements: Out of 80 students who participated in the recruitment process, 71 were placed in the 2023 batch. The average package was 11.7 LPA. The highest package stood at 18 LPA. The top recruiters were Trilegal, Luthra and Luthra, Induslaw, Khaitan & Co., and Saraf and Partners.
Infrastructure: The college has a very decent infrastructure. It has Wi-Fi all over the campus. NLUO has Asia's biggest law library with centralized AC. Except for the hostel, you will find centralized AC on campus. It has 3 canteens, one of which works during the day and the other two during the night, along with one Nescafe shop and a juice centre. The mess food is average. The college has one outdoor sports court, a sports room for indoor sports, one cricket ground, and a football field with a gym.
Faculty: The teachers are highly qualified here, but sometimes there is a disturbance in the classes due to repetitive changes of professors. The professors are also available after college hours for any doubt-solving sessions. The course is well updated according to the needs of the legal industry, and it has 6 subjects per semester. In NLUO, there are only two end-of-semester exams per semester, which are 70 marks in theory and 30 marks in project and viva. The passing marks are 49.5 out of 100, which is approximately 50%.

The infrastructure of the college is good.
Placements: Placements for our senior batch are good. They got hired in top law firms like Amarchand, Khaitan & Co., Luthra and Luthra, etc. There is a placement committee in the university which is a student body and supervised by a faculty adviser. The committee plays a key role in acquiring placements.
Infrastructure: The college provides excellent infrastructural facilities. There are single accommodation rooms available in our hostels with a good canteen which offers north Indian and south Indian food. The college provides unlimited Wi-Fi facility. There is a library with several books, and we have an amphitheatre, sports complex, etc.
Faculty: The college provides highly qualified faculty members. The course curriculum is well-structured to meet the practical needs of law in society. Most of the subjects are taught by more than one lecturer. There are professors, assistant professors, associate professors, and lecturers who have mastered in different subjects.

Review of National Law University, Odisha.
Placements: The placements provided by our college are quite good. Approximately 60% to 70% of the alumni were placed, and they are currently working in many prestigious and well-recognised firms. So, this is one of the happiest moments for any university which was established in 2009 and progressing with the massive placement rate.
Infrastructure: The infrastructure of the college is excellent. The amphitheatre present in the college is the most beautiful. The sports complex, gymnasium and academic block are present in the college. There is a lot of greenery present in the college. The culture in the college is very good. The students are diverse, and they are from various parts of the country.
Faculty: The faculty members present in the college are the best among all the colleges present all over India. They are very professional in their teaching. They clear the doubts of students very well. Most of them are awarded from the foreign recognised universities, and this shows their dedication towards their profession, which is very good.

An upcoming law school with good placements, infrastructure however low quality of faculty.
Placements: I am in the 5th batch of the college, and I have seen a gradual increase in the placements every year. The 1st batch, the placements was low, but now from the past two years, we have firms like JSA, Luthra recruiting from the college. Out of 120 batches, approximately 10-15 students were placed every year via campus recruitment. The others almost get PPOs from their internships. The college has placement as well as internship committee who work hard to help the students get placed. The average package offered is approximately in lakhs.
Infrastructure: When I first joined the college in the year 2013, we just had one academic block and one girl's hostel and one boy's hostel. However, in the last 5 years there had been major developments in the infrastructure, and now we have an amphitheatre, academic block, administrative block, 2 girls hostel, 2 boys hostel, sports complex and a huge garden in the college. The only few things that are missing are a library, AC rooms and a guest house for parents. We have high internet connectivity, and our wi-fi works well. However, there are a lot of facilities that are still missing on the campus like a good grocery shop, a food outlet considering the fact that the college is far from the city. The medical services and AC hostel rooms considering the fact that there is great humidity in the State of Odisha, we need hostel AC rooms.
Faculty: The quality of the faculty is the main issue that the college faces, as most of the faculty members are research associate who is still preparing for the NET entrance test. Moreover, the college follows the old tradition of delivering lectures and hence classes most of the times gets boring, and we mostly lack the practical knowledge of the subject. Since we have lack of teachers, the course curriculum depends on the availability of teachers especially when it comes to seminar papers and hence most of the time we are forced to take a subject even if we have interest in some other subject, but it is not taught in the college because of lack of teachers.
Other: The college has started to organise its national moot which is known as IMAM based on maritime law. Moreover, we have also started organised annual sports and cultural fest known as VIRAAJ. The students have formed a committee known as the informal discussion group that calls dignitaries from various fields to deliver lectures and tell their experiences in life. We also have a committee that motivates entrepreneurship named as LexTech who has recently organised a Google start up the weekend.

NLUO Courses and Fees FAQs

Q:   What is the selection process for BBA LL.B. and what is the minimum CLAT score required?

A:

The selection process for the BBA LL.B. programme at National Law University Odisha involves two key factors. First, candidates need to appear for the Common Law Admission Test (CLAT), a national-level entrance exam. NLUO considers CLAT scores as the primary determinant for admission, with minimum score requirements typically ranging between 60% to 75% for the general category and 45% to 50% for reserved categories like OBC, SC, and ST. Second, the academic record, especially Class 12th marks, is also taken into account. While a robust CLAT score is crucial, a strong academic background further enhances an applicant's chances. The application process includes submitting CLAT scores and academic records to NLUO. The university reviews applications, prepares a merit list based on CLAT scores and academic performance, and offers admission to candidates based on their merit ranking and seat availability. It's essential to note that the minimum CLAT score requirements are approximate figures, subject to variations each year. As a best practice, applicants should regularly check the NLUO website for the latest and specific information before applying.

Q:   Which entrance exam scores are accepted by NLUO for admission?

A:

National Law University Odisha places paramount importance on the scores obtained in the Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) for admissions to its diverse law programs. This encompasses both undergraduate (UG) courses like BBA LL.B. and BA LL.B., as well as postgraduate courses such as LLM. CLAT stands as a pivotal national level entrance examination, serving as the primary criterion in NLUO admission process.

CLAT is designed to comprehensively evaluate a candidate's aptitude and eligibility for pursuing legal studies. The examination assesses various skills, including proficiency in English, general knowledge, legal reasoning, logical reasoning, and quantitative techniques. The aggregate scores across these sections determine a candidate overall performance, influencing their eligibility for admission to NLUO.

As a standardized and widely recognised examination, CLAT ensures a fair and uniform evaluation process for candidates aspiring to join NLUO law programs. The university reliance on CLAT scores underscores its commitment to a merit-based selection process, emphasizing academic excellence and aptitude in legal studies.

Prospective students are advised to diligently prepare for CLAT, considering its pivotal role in securing admission to NLUO. The university may establish specific score requirements for different courses or categories, and applicants should stay abreast of the latest admission criteria and score expectations, which are regularly updated on the official NLUO website.

In conclusion, CLAT serves as the linchpin in NLUO's admission process, reflecting the university commitment to maintaining high academic standards and ensuring a rigorous yet equitable evaluation of candidates aspiring to contribute to the legal field through their education at NLUO.

Q:   What are the factors affecting NLUO LLM cutoff 2023?

A:

Every year, the cut off marks for the NLUO LLM CLAT exam are affected due to the following factors:

  • Total candidates qualifying CLAT exam. If the total number of qualifying candidates is less than the total seats then cut off goes low
  • Total number of seats. If the total number of seats is revised and increased then cut off is expected to remain low
  • Previous year cut offs. For the top NLUs, the cut-off marks in previous years were high, therefore, only topper candidates could make it for final admissions. Fore other NLUs, the cut off marks are relatively low.
