Good university for students who want to study hard. Many courses are available.
Placements: There was no option for placement in our course. We are on our own, whether to get a job or to study further. You can get placement on other courses but not in the course I applied to, as far as I remember. Not only our course but our department, i.e., applied biology, food science, zoology, etc. come into this department.
Infrastructure: The infrastructure is quite good. There was Wi-Fi, although the data is very low. The labs are quite good. There were almost all instruments required for our course, and there was a library too that we could access anytime we needed by filling out a membership. Also, there is also a amenity center where we have a food court, pharmacy, beauty parlour, tailoring shop, fast food corners, and stationary. The hostel I would give a 3.5 star. Everything is good, except the food. Sometimes it's not tasty. Sports, games, etc. are there. We can do anything on the ground near the hostel.
Faculty: In short, the teaching quality is great. I feel like going back to school again. The teachers are strict. If you are there only for time pass and want to enjoy university life by changing out and not studying, I suggest you not to study here. The course is above average difficulty. Yes, the course is curriculum-relevant, and its practical class is very good. Semester exams are quite difficult. The pass percentage is 60-70%.
Other: I heard from my friends that this course is good and there is less competition in this course while applying for a job. I learn many things related to microorganisms, like how they are cultivated, where they are used and all other things like DNA and all. The only thing I would love them to improve is to at least have attendance for each subject. There is only 2 times attendance, one in the morning and one in the afternoon. And if you miss your attendance class, your whole day attendance is gone. There is an endless number of events and fests in the university. Your university life will be enjoyable along with studying; other than that, there are many types of scholarships, like if you pass with a 9+ CGPA, all your admission fee will be returned to you. And there are also extracurricular activities like dancing, sports days, etc.

Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) - Batch of 2024

Good infrastructure and best faculties.
Placements: Unfortunately, there were no placement opportunities when I graduated. However, a few organizations visited the university during the year and offered opportunities to work for them on a regular basis. For example, Vishal Mega Mart. There are no top recruiting companies for our courses. Almost everyone in our batch got at least two internships at agency-based organizations such as the Indian Council for Child Development, CAREU 365, and the Sobriety Foundation.
Infrastructure: We have so many buildings and facilities that it's one of the most beautiful campuses in the northeast. We have the biggest auditorium in the northeast, and there are almost more than 100 WiFi access points, including all departments and hostels. We have more than 35 libraries, including the central library, which has 80,000 books. The quality of the hostel is quite good, and the food is a bit average. Regarding sports, we don't have good playgrounds and don't focus much on sports. That's a drawback for the university, but we do have many games like basketball, football, table tennis, badminton, etc., and we have a huge gymnastics facility in the campus that provides free admission.
Faculty: The teachers at USTM are very helpful and qualified. They focus on the welfare and well-being of the students. The course curriculum is relevant to everyone, and the university makes students industry-ready. For example, BSW students must go on field visits, either to an agency or community-based organization. Semester exams are not that difficult, but the difficulty level depends on the department. For example, medical sciences have different difficulties in their own fields. The pass mark for the semester exams is 28 out of 70 marks for theory, and the other 30 marks are internal marks.
Other: I chose this course because I wanted to learn about the socio-economic background of communities in India. The syllabus is simple, effective, and easy to follow. It provides the best theories and principles, not only for MSW students but for anyone interested in the field. One area that could be improved is the sports program. There are only a few events and festivals on campus, as it is focused on academics. However, the campus life at USTM is the best in the Northeast. The scholarships we receive are sufficient and helpful, although they come from state schemes. The university also provides scholarships to meritorious students and EWS students.

The most amazing part of USTM is the faculty members; they are so lenient and free.
Placements: You have to look for the companies for internships by yourself. Or you can choose a short new research project to work upon in your last semester, and you can even publish your work in some good journals. Also, you can learn a new software to enhance your profile.
Infrastructure: The overall campus experience in USTM is beautiful. The campus is very big with huge, beautiful buildings and infrastructure. We have a gym, pond, numerous parks, and a huge amenity center. It has the Northeast's largest auditorium and a library with over 80,000 books; every department has its own library. The football grounds are not good; they are the worst and getting worse every year. The ground is only meant for parking university buses and other things. Besides, the university doesn't allow female students to use the gym or be on campus after 5:00 PM, not even in the canteen or library.
Faculty: The faculty in our college are truly supportive in all aspects of a student's life, allowing us to explore a lot and build friendly, healthy relationships. Thankfully, I got all my department staff as my favorites, and to honor that, it is Sujithra ma'am. Unlike my favorites, I actually ignore the physical education staff because of their partiality and mannerisms. There are 2 semester exams per year, which are quite easy to handle alongside cultural sports and other activities. Only 2% may not clear the exams. The curriculum is closely relevant to the course every year.

Great infrastructure but needs to improve the quality of education.
Placements: About 10-20% of my seniors were placed in my course. The rest either went for litigation or are preparing for competitive exams. Private firms offered an average package of 5 LPA. Bajaj, BHEL, and other Tier 2 and 3 firms recruit pass-out students. Almost all students get internships in various companies and under reputed advocates. The course I’m pursuing, which is BALLB (H), is a professional course and provides various roles to students.
Infrastructure: USTM actually has commendable infrastructure with a huge central auditorium that is considered the largest auditorium in North East, an accommodating central library along with separate libraries in each department, and not one or two but several canteens and shops to eat from, including a backyard café. USTM has a private hospital that is open to both students of USTM and outsiders. It is also constructing the first-ever private medical college for MBBS in the North East. The university is also active in cultural activities and college fests, which include sports week as well.
Faculty: USTM is very strict regarding exams and attendance; they do not let students sit for sessional exams if they do not meet the required attendance criteria. Classes are from 9 AM to 4 PM, which gets hectic for the students, and each semester has three sessional exams held every month, out of which it is necessary to appear in at least two sessionals. I personally think the curriculum is too similar to school, but it does prepare the students for the 9-5 corporate life. The semester exams are not that hard, in my opinion. The pass percentage is about 33%, and if you get less, you receive a backlog in that subject. However, they still promote the student to the next semester, but you have to clear the backlogs next year in the final exams.
Other: I took admission in this university because of the campus life and infrastructure at first. But genuinely speaking, the fees they charge from the students do not justify the quality of education they provide. As I mentioned, the typical school rules should be changed. The chancellor doesn’t allow any event to continue after 7 PM, which I feel is too soon. Students cannot properly enjoy their time.

B.A. in Administration and Governance - Batch of 2024

The INs and OUTs of USTM.
Placements: Our course did not provide us with placement opportunities as it strictly adhered to a coaching environment, with the main goal of the course being the competitive examinations, namely UPSC. The course also did not encourage internships as it would take away the focus on academics and self-reading time for the students.
Infrastructure: The facilities were up to date, with an elevator in each block, a power generator, and fans in each classroom. There were designated cleaning staff for each block and a block coordinator to ensure the smooth functioning of the block. The hostel facilities were also up to date, containing 3-sitter and 2-sitter rooms, with attached and non-attached bathrooms, a water filter on each floor, and a cooler in the mess hall. There is also a medical hospital on campus that provides free and discounted treatment to the students of the university. The university holds annual sports events spanning across each Saturday for about a month or so to encourage physical fitness alongside academic prowess.
Faculty: The teachers appointed for our department all come from UPSC backgrounds, making them highly qualified for the course. The course is very relevant in this current day and age when a huge chunk of the population is vying for a placement through various competitive examinations. This course provides a platform for students to not just attain a bachelor’s degree but also prepare them for various examinations, giving them an edge over other competitors. Each semester’s syllabus is carefully curated to ensure maximum knowledge is imparted to the students over the duration of three years.
Other: I opted for my course (Administration and Governance) as it provides the best of both worlds; being a bachelor’s degree along with a coaching environment to help better prepare students for competitive examinations. However, while the course syllabus makes the best use of our three years in the university, a more systematic and chronological order of world events, especially for history, would be more appreciated. The university has an annual fest garnering a huge crowd of students from inside and outside. The campus is surrounded by lush greenery, making it truly a place to be. Scholarships are also provided to students on a need and merit basis. There are various extracurricular activities encouraged by the university, such as horse riding clubs, driving clubs, literary clubs, etc.
