These are first-hand student accounts on how our young population is managing to keep their exam prep or college course work going from the confines of their homes. In case you want to share your lockdown study experience, write to us at publish@shiksha.com.

The current pandemic of COVID 19 around the entire world has brought the world to a standstill. it has threatened the future of the current pursuing students whose lives have been put to a halt along with many others.  Our country India has been into a complete lockdown for the past two weeks with no guarantee for any reopening of the schools and colleges in the near weeks. This is an important issue for the education department since the education for the current session for the students shall be at a great loss if appropriate and co-operating measures are not taken along with some relaxation.

Many schools have chosen to promote their students without any final examination up to class 8 while colleges and universities have chosen to continue with their regular classes via online classes through mobile and web apps like Zoom, Google Duo, Hangout, etc.

I am currently a student of B.Com final year at Aligarh Muslim University where our university has already resumed our classes via online teaching for all the courses.

We generally use the Zoom app for online classes whilst it still remains the choice of the professors to choose their own platform for conducting online classes.

We are provided with regular study materials every week in instalments, which has to be prepared in advance for better understanding while discussing the topics in the online sessions. It is an interactive session where everybody is allowed to participate and get their doubts and queries cleared by the professors. We also have to submit small assignments via email or Whatsapp at the end of every topic for the teachers to assess students’ performance.

The classes are held on a daily basis wherein the professors send the schedule a day in advance. The classes are very effective and a healthy number of participants actively participating in the sessions every day. To make it more comfortable for the students, the professors have become more co-operative and understanding while completing their syllabus.

For some courses, wherein lab woks or practicals are required, projects are being submitted for the time being but on a condition that the hardcopy shall be submitted for all the assignments and projects on reopening of the university for recording purposes.

In such a time of crisis, I really appreciate our professors, dean of faculties and the chairman of departments for constantly reviewing the needs of the students and providing with all the help and support to the students to complete this session with ease and comfort.

The National Education Policy 2020 has changed the admission pattern for all Central Universities.

Now, the National Testing Agency conducts a single Entrance Exam known as the CENTRAL UNIVERSITY ENTRANCE TEST (CUET). Therefore, you will have to take the CUET for admission to your desired course.
