Delhi University released a modified academic calendar for the 2019-2020 session.
Delhi University released a modified academic calendar for the 2019-2020 session. According to the reports, instead of dispersing the even semester classes in April, the University pushed the date further into May. DU released the modified calendar before UGC's decision on university exams and new academic calendar.
Delhi University scheduled to disperse classes for the ongoing even semester on April 28, 2020. However, with the nationwide lockdown suspending classes and postponing exams, DU modified its calendar for the ongoing session and will now disperse classes on May 15, 2020.
A notice published on DU’s website states, "In view of the unprecedented situation prevailing in the world leading to the lockdown in the country till 03.05.2020, the University of Delhi has partially modified the Academic Calendar 2019-2020.”
While there is a need to complete the syllabus and conduct exams in Universities so that students could complete their degree or move up to the next year/semester, the universities also need to prepare for the arrival of the new batch for the upcoming academic session.
However, the universities cannot begin with the admission processes until results for 12th board exams are announced. While Delhi University's admission schedule aligns with the declaration of CBSE 12th Result 2020, several state universities begin college admission after the announcement of their state board results.
With two months of distorted academic schedule, the universities and colleges have to look for innovative solutions to bring back students and continue the learning process.
Meanwhile, UGC is yet to announce its decision on conducting the university exams and schedule for the upcoming academic session.
