All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) launched ‘CovidGyan’ recently to help people deal with the challenge of information overload on the novel coronavirus. Various reports on the outbreak of the contagious virus COVID-19 is going around on the internet. AICTE’s CovidGyan will help to spread the authentic information.

Talking about its initiative, AICTE said, “The torrent of information generated and spread from all corners of the world on Covid-19 and coronavirus has created information overload. It is a challenge to comprehend reliable information while filtering out misinformation.”

In response, the Council created a 'multi-institutional, multi-lingual science communication initiative'. Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR), the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), and the Tata Memorial Centre (TMC) are the makers of CovidGyan. Other prominent partners who actively participated in developing this initiative are IndiaBioscience, Vigyan Prasar, the Bangalore Life Science Cluster (BLiSC, which comprises InStem and C-CAMP, in addition to NCBS-TIFR).

According to the reports, the initiative, CovidGyan will 'create, curate, and communicate' the information related to the novel coronavirus that is a scientifically credible and authentic content. The general population, as well as the people interested in scientific research on the disease, will be targeted via CovidGyan. The topics covered include guidance for health and well-being.

The developers are working to make the resources available in various Indian languages and reach the masses. AICTE also launched a website for Covid-Gyan i.e. 'covid-gyan.in'. So far the website is equipped with content such as posters, short informative videos, FAQs, articles, myth busters and more. The content is being actively translated into various other Indian languages.

The content on CovidGyan website is published under ‘Creative Commons license’ and other educational institutes and Universities can also reproduce the same on their website or place links on the social media pages and other online platforms.
