Hostel Facilities at Banaras Hindu University

There are over 75 hostels on the Banaras Hindu University campus for both male and female students.

BHU provides a hostel to 50% of students via entrance results. If anyone is unable to get a hostel, for those there are many rental rooms as well as paying guests. The locations are near BHU's main gate, Hyderabad Gate, Chituupur gate, and Seat Govardhan Gate.

Hostel facility is available to BSc students in both groups Mathematics and Biology. More than 100 students get a hostel in the first year. Ramkrishna and Broacha are UG hostels. First-year students get their rooms in Ramkrishna hostel behind Vishwanath temple. High-speed internet, purified water, 24-hour light, indoor and outdoor games facility, healthy food, and an eco-friendly environment are the qualities of BHU hostels. There are over 75 hostels on campus for both males and females.

Types of Accommodation at BHU 

For Male Students

First-year students are provided with shared accommodation. One will have 2 other roommates to share the new adventures and experiences of college life. Every student gets a room with a single bed, a cupboard, a table, a chair, a tube light, a fan and a LAN connection for personal use. Every hostel has its boundary within which there are grounds designated for outdoor games, gardens etc. Almost every hostel has its common room with LCD television sets and a table tennis setup.

IMS Bhubaneswar has a vibrant campus life for girl students, with allowed freedom within restricted timings and no dress code restrictions. The college provides various sports facilities and a moderately busy calendar of events. The mess food is of good quality and variety, and the attendance policy requires complete attendance to avoid penalties. There is no language challenge on campus, and student support services are available through designated teachers and student representatives. Academically, the college follows a moderate schedule with regular exams and practical discussions based on case studies. The college has a well-stocked library and secure surroundings with guards and CCTV cameras present everywhere. Ragging is strictly prohibited, and authorities must grant permission for leaving the hostel premises. All modes of transport are available from the campus, making it easily accessible.

Q:   What facilities are offered by Institute of Management Studies, Banaras Hindu University?

BHU is the largest residential university in Asia. University provides a wide range of facilities including separate medical complexes for students and staff, sports and hobbies centers, Internet facilities and units like Public Relations Cell, Printing Press, Preservation Centers, Agricultural research farms, Poultry Farms, Pisciculture, Radio Station, Petrol Pump, ATMs, Banks, Post Office, Subsidized Canteens, a NCC barrack and its own Security Force.

There are 2 hostels for UG students- Rama Krishna Hostel and Broacha Hostel with a total of 428 rooms that can accommodate up to 856 students. There are 2 hostels for PG students- Bhabha Hostel and Dalmiya Hostel with a total of 455 rooms which can accommodate up to 890 students.

Fee: INR 4.50 K

For Female Students

As far as girls’ hostels are concerned, there are 2 hostels for UG students- Gargi Hostel and Kundan Devi Shatabdi Hostel, which share common facilities and have the same no. of rooms. Below is the list of a few facilities

  • No. of rooms- 144, capacity- 288
  • Admin Warden: 3 
  • Common room with TV, Library room, Computer room, Mini Common kitchen with induction & Fridge, Geyser, Wi-Fi and various sports facilities (like Volleyball, Badminton and other indoor games)

There are 2 hostels for PG students- JC Bose Hostel and Maitreyi Hostel with a capacity of 70 rooms which can accommodate up to 140 students.

Fee: INR 4.50 K

Rooms

A total of 480 students can be accommodated in one hostel. For every 2 students, there is 1 room. You will get one fan, a light holder without lamps, a plug point, a chair table and a bed. 

Mess

The messes are all attached to all hostels. So, there are no problems with meals. The rate of veg food is INR 50 & for nonveg INR 80 with unlimited food. So, the approximate price stands at INR 80-100 per day. If you skip the meal or go home then you can tell Mess Maharaj and you won't be charged.

Sports Ground

Inside each hostel, there are volleyball, a badminton court, table tennis, and a small garden ground where you can play cricket /football. There are lots of big playgrounds inside the campus where you can play all types of sports, there are special courts for tennis, basketball, football, etc.

BHU offers entrance-based admissions to all its UG and PG courses. To get admission to any UG and PG courses, it is compulsory to appear for the CUET-UG/ CUET-PG entrance exams.
