THE World University Ranking 2022: IISc India's highest-ranked institution, three Indian varsities in top 400

Three Indian Institutions have been ranked among the top 400 universities in the world in the Times Higher Education University Rankings 2022.

The Indian Institute of Science (IISc) Bengaluru continuing its last year's performance has once again bagged the top position among the Indian higher education institutions in the Times' Higher Education World University Rankings 2022. Three Indian Institutions have been ranked among the top 400 universities in the world in the Times Higher Education University Rankings 2022.

For the third consecutive year, the IISC has maintained its position in the 301-350 band in global rankings with a score of 46.1–48.0.  As compared to last year, this year, 71 Indian Universities have made it to the list. Last year, 63 Universities were named in the global rankings. As many as 1,662 universities featured on the Times rankings list this year, compared with 1,527 last year.

IIT Ropar (351-400 band) has continued to be in second place from India as last year with the 44.1–46.0 score. JSS Academy of Higher Education and Research has also been named in 351-400 band with a score of 44.1–46.0. IIT Indore has been ranked between 401 and 500 with a score of 39.8–43.5. 

It must be noted that seven IITs including Delhi, Bombay, Kharagpur and Madras have continued to stay out of the list for the second consecutive year as they decided not to participate in the global rankings, citing data discrepancy and lack of transparency.

Meanwhile, 35 Indian varsities, the second-highest total of the country, have been named in the top 1000 in the list.

Ten Indian varsities, including Delhi Technological University (DTU), Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), Banaras Hindu University (BHU) Jamia Millia Islamia and Panjab University were listed in the 601-800 band.
