In a conversation with Shiksha.com, Dr Gunjeet Kaur, Dean of the School of Economics and Commerce talks about the course delivery at the School of Economics, MIT WPU which takes place through Master classes by international faculty members, experiential learning pedagogy and value-add courses from INSEAD and Harvard. 

Dr Gunjeet Kaur is currently positioned as the Dean of the School of Economics and Commerce. Dr Gunjeet Kaur is a Doctorate in (Marketing) from Delhi School of Economics, University of Delhi. Her interest areas are Relationship Marketing, Branding, Strategic Marketing, and Customer Experience.

Q1. Is your college/university receptive to innovation, technology, science & entrepreneurship? Could you cite some examples of these? 

MITWPU has an incubation centre that encourages students and faculty members to innovate new ideas. This centre has all the facilities that support experimentation and projects. School of Economics and Commerce has built into its curriculum structure of commerce degree and economics degree programs benchmarked courses that deliver technological integration into finance, accounts, and economics domains. As both the commerce and Economics departments are offering B.Sc program, a dedicated focus on scientific aspects in each domain is delivered through quantitative and analytical pedagogy.

Q:   Is MIT-WPU worth it?

A:

MIT-WPU has international collaborations with various universities abroad, including RWTH Aachen University, Germany; Domus Academy Milano, Italy; Istituto Marangoni, Italy; Rochester Institute of Technology, United States; and University of Vermont, USA; among others to provide exposure to students in the form of various study tours, internships, faculty exchange, etc. MIT-WPU offers scholarships and placement assistance to students. Over the past few years, MIT-WPU has been ranked under multiple streams namely Management, Engineering, Computer Application, and others.

Q:   Is B.Tech available in MIT-WPU?

A:

MIT-WPU offers a four-year B.Tech course across 15 specialisations. These specialisations are divided into further sub-specialisations. The total seat intake for this course is 1,680. Q:   Is MIT-WPU good for BCA?

A:

MIT-WPU offers a three-year BCA course in Science specialisations. The university also gives options to students to choose a four-year UG programme, where they will be awarded a (Hons.) degree at the course completion. Those who get a UG degree in BCA can build their career as Data Scientists, Data Engineers, Machine Learning Engineers, Application Architects, etc. The university provides scholarships facility to students based on their merit scores in MIT-WPU CET entrance exam. 

Q2. Share a list of the top five USPs why students should choose B.Sc. Business Economics programme at MIT-WPU  than its competitors? Also, what sets you apart from the rest?

  • MIT-WPU offers B.Sc in Business Economics as compared to BA in Business Economics offered by other institutes and universities. Q3. How do you ensure that you have an up-to-date course curriculum that helps students stay at par with corporate expectations? How do you make students industry ready?

The course curriculum is designed after benchmarking courses with national and international Ivy League universities. The curriculum is then approved by a Board of the School and Academic Council with members from industry, academia, and alumni validating the curriculum. MIT-WPU has integrated across the programs a Corporate Readiness program that trains students for various aspects of being ready for the industry- be it communication skills, interview skills, CV writing and many such aspects.

Q4. Why is the B.Sc. Business Economics programme considered the best choice for students seeking professional growth? Highlight some of the best teaching methodologies adopted.

Business Economicus program trains the study through hands-on mini projects, experiential learning, and case study teaching pedagogy making it a real-world oriented program where students get their learning by doing in the external world rather than sitting in the classroom. Master classes by international faculty members, case study method, participating in live projects in the corporate, and study abroad and international immersion are some of the top highlights of teaching pedagogy.

Q:   Is MIT-WPU good for MCA?

A:

 Yes, MIT-WPU can be a good option for students to pursue MCA course. Students can study this course in Science and Management streams at MIT-WPU. During MIT placements the last year, the highest salary package offered was INR 10 LPA and INR 8 LPA for MCA (Science) and MCA (Management) courses, respectively. Apart from the regular course, the university conducts time-to-time industry visits at Cybage, Inteliment, Xpansion International, Barclays, CISCO, and other companies to expand the practical exposure of students. There are scholarships available for meritorious students at MIT-WPU Pune. The university offers scholarships based on MAH-CET/ MIT-WPU CET scores. 

Q:   Is MIT-WPU good for B.Tech?

A:

MIT-WPU offers a four-year B.Tech course across 15 specialisations. The university also offers admission to direct second year of B.Tech course Lateral Entry. The specialisations offered are Computer Science and Engineering, Civil Engineering (Smart Infrastructure & Construction), Computer Science and Engineering (Artificial Intelligence & Data Science), Mechanical Engineering (Robotics & Automation), Chemical Engineering, Electrical & Computer Engineering, Electronics & Communication Engineering (Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning), etc.  For the skill enhancement of students the MIT Pune offers Value Added Compulsory Technology Programs for all Engineering Students such as Linux based Python Laboratory, Basic IoT Laboratory, Data Science for Engineers and AI & ML. Q:   Is MIT-WPU worth it for BBA?

A:

Yes, MIT-WPU offers BBA courses for a duration of three and four years across 11 specialisations. Students who pursue this course can build a career as Brand Managers, entrepreneurs, Financial Analyst, Business Development Executives, etc. The university offers scholarships to the best qualifiers of MIT-WPU CET in the form of fee waiver. During the course commencement, students get the opportunity to pursue a four-six week internship, which gives practical exposure to students. The placement cell also conducts various mock interviews, group discussions and multiple workshops to prepare its students for the better job opportunity. 

Q:   How good is BTech course at MIT-WPU?

A:

At the UG level, candidates can pursue a four-year BTech course across 15 popular specialisations. The university also offers direct admission to the second year of BTech through Lateral Entry. The university offers scholarships to the best qualifiers of JEE Main or MHT CET as a waiver on fees. Further, during the commencement of the course, students get an opportunity to pursue a six-month mandatory internship to implement practical learning. The highest stipend during the internship programme is offered of INR 60,000. During the placements of MIT-WPU, the overall the highest package was recorded at INR 44.14 lakh. The top recruiters of MIT-WPU are Infosys, Wipro, Deloitte, Amazon, Accenture, etc.

Q:   Has MIT-WPU collaborated with any college or university?

A:

MIT-WPU has collaborated with various universities, industries, and colleges. For this, MIT World Peace University has signed MoUs with several institutions, organisations, and companies. Some of them are RWTH Aachen University, Germany; Domus Academy Milano, Italy; University of Vermont, USA; Rochester Institute of Technology, United States, and others. In collaboration with various colleges and universities, MIT-WPU arranges faculty exchange programmes for students.

 

Q5. Do you believe in imparting knowledge that is not restricted to classrooms only? If yes, how? 

As explained in the answer to question 4, Masterclasses by international faculty members, case study method, participating in live projects in the corporate, and study abroad and international immersion are some of the top highlights of teaching pedagogy. Students get their learning by doing in the external world rather than sitting in the classroom.

Q6. How do you support students for placements? Share some of the latest placement achievements.

MIT-WPU has a central Career Assistance Cell that grooms and assists students to get placed. Through this cell, MIT-WPU has signed MOUs with various companies across industries be it Consulting, Banks, or FMCG. Students at the School of Economics and Commerce, for example, were offered internships at Barclays at a stipend of Rs 75,000 per month.

Yes, MIT-WPU has various scholarships across categories for eligible students to enable them to pursue degree programs.

Q8. What are the teaching methodologies that your college is currently following? Do these technologies resemble new-age teaching technologies? 

Experiential learning, live projects, international, national, and rural immersion, analytical software-based teaching and inclusion of technology-based courses like fintech, econometrics, and digital payment systems are some of the examples of teaching technologies. Each classroom has a smart board enabling faculty members to access the internet for student engagement tools.
