Candidates who wish to apply for the MSc (Master of Science) programme at Calicut University must have completed a bachelor's degree in a relevant stream. This typically means a bachelor's degree in Science, Engineering or Technology, depending on the specialisation for which the candidate is applying. The exact requirements can vary depending on the specific MSc programme and department, but in general, applicants should have completed a bachelor's degree with a minimum aggregate percentage of marks from a recognised university. Also, the candidates seeking admission to the MSc course need a minimum of 70% in class 12 and 45% to 55% in graduation. Candidates seeking admission to a BTech course at Calicut University must have passed Class 12 in the Science stream with Physics and Mathematics as compulsory subjects. Also, they must attain a minimum of 45% aggregate in their final exam of Class 12. The students whose results are pending can also apply for the course provisionally. Moreover, candidates must have academic certificates for verification purposes. KEAM/ JEE Main + CAP are the entrance exams accepted by the Calicut University for admission to the BTech course.

Calicut University offers various undergraduate and postgraduate programmes. Pass marks for each programme and exam type vary. OBC and OEC candidates require a minimum of 45%, whereas SC and ST candidates usually need a passing grade for most undergraduate programmes. General category students need at least 50% in their class 12 class exams for admission. Pass mark requirements can vary depending on the exam type. The University of Calicut does not conduct its own entrance test for MBA admission. Instead, it accepts valid scores from the Common Admission Test (CAT), Common Management Admission Test (CMAT), or Kerala Management Aptitude Test (KMAT) as an alternative means of evaluating the aptitude and knowledge of candidates for the MBA programme.

Admission to the BSc course at Calicut University is entrance-based. The minimum eligiblity required to apply for the course is Class 12 or its equivalent with a minimum aggregate of 45%-70% from a recognised university. However, as admissions are entrance-based, students are required to secure a valid score in the accepted entrance exams such to be eligible for the BSc course admission. In case a candidate does not score enough, or wants to consider other options for BSc admissions, they can always opt for other colleges offering online BSc course.
