Bethune - An Overview of the College.
Placements: We have 35 students in our class. We don't have placements offered to us in that way. I know there is a summer internship. There are a few internships and placements available for the Science batch, but I don’t really know the details.
Infrastructure: Our college has everything arranged for us. There is Wi-Fi, the labs are well-equipped and clean, the classrooms are nice, and the library has books, and it’s good. The hostel is quite nice, with good washrooms and good food managed by the students. Overall, it’s a good place to stay.
Faculty: The teachers are really helpful, very professional but at the same time friendly and sweet. They understand the students and do their best to help all of us. They are knowledgeable yet very approachable. Yes, the course is absolutely relatable—it's about how our political system works. The exams seem difficult since it's under Calcutta University.
Other: I chose this course because I always had a love for Political Science. The course is beautiful, and I get to know about how our political system works and how things happen in different sectors of it. It’s fascinating and interesting, also because it has a lot of scope. Our college has a lot of events going on, but the main one is Alaap, the college fest, held in the month of December. The campus crowd is wonderful, and it’s a safe place.

Our college has good curriculum, helpful teachers, and good campus life.
Placements: TCS visits our campus to hire students. Our batchmates want to pursue higher studies, and none of them got placed. In the previous year, many students were placed.
Infrastructure: Our college has a huge area with many buildings, and our campus is greenery. There were two libraries, one for science and another one for the arts. Departmental libraries were also available. The libraries were well-stocked, and several books were available. There were many classrooms, and each one of them was very spacious and airy. There were galleries and smart classrooms as well. Our college provides hostel in Saltlake with modern amenities and rooms were well-maintained. The food served in the canteen was good at a reasonable rate, which was ideal for day scholars.
Faculty: All our professors were very helpful and kind to everyone. They were always one step forward in helping us in every way possible. They were friendly and very knowledgeable. Our course curriculum had data analysis and econometrics, which every company looks for. The topics taught were relevant. Semester exams were not very easy, but our professors prepared us in every way. The pass percentage was approximately 85%. Students were among the top-ranked in the city.
Other: Our college organises an annual fest Aalap. We had inter-college competitions and concerts. We also had an annual day where students and alumni were felicitated. This college organised a Bengal economic meeting where eminent professors from all over India attended and gave paper presentations, which were very insightful and good for education. State scholarships like Kanyashree were available for students. Sports day was also conducted every year, and many students and teachers participate for entertainment.

Every student's thought - Dreams that got shattered and life that turned into disappointment.
Placements: I still am not much aware of the placements, but as I have heard from my seniors, the placements offered at the college are very low. Hardly any student gets recruited in any firm. Moreover, students need to go out in search of internships more because there is not much attention on this criterion.
Infrastructure: The hostel is good as it is new, having started from the year 2023, but the infrastructure of my course and faculty is horrible. There is no hygiene and cleanliness in the college. Being a women's college, there's a need for better hygiene and cleanliness.
Faculty: The faculty for my subject and other subjects is good. The only positive aspect of this college is that its teachers are helpful, available, and student-friendly. They are accessible to students at any time. The teaching quality is also 7.5 out of 10. Semester exams are difficult, and the pass percentage is average.
Other: I chose this course and college because of its A+ ranking in NIRF. However, upon entering the college, I found nothing special that separates this college from any other low-ranking institution. Despite being top-rated, many news channels visit the college, and many events occur, but the most frustrating part is the hygienic conditions. I have heard of many students getting dust allergies, infections, and more. Many girls cannot use the toilets as they are not cleaned regularly, seeming to be cleaned only once a year.

Bethune College provides good campus life and good academic life.
Placements: Bachelors don't have placement services in most colleges in West Bengal, but Bethune gets a placement offer every year from Tata Consultancy Services. In our batch, no one was interested in getting placed right after our bachelor's. Most were pursuing Masters and the rest were preparing for various government jobs. From the previous batch, two of our seniors got placed in TCS.
Infrastructure: Bethune was the oldest women's college in Asia. The majority of the infrastructure was from the colonial era and was well maintained. During our college years, two new buildings were inaugurated. One building contained the common room for students and the other building contained a teachers' meditation room. The other building was the auditorium building. The labs were well maintained. We have a sports room and a union room. There were two libraries, both of which were well maintained. The canteen food was good and affordable.
Faculty: The course curriculum was interesting and will prepare students both for industry and academia. Professors were student-friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. There were elective papers in the 5th and 6th semesters along with the core papers. The students have to write a 5000–7000 word dissertation on an issue in Indian Economics in the final semester, which will be supervised by the professors. The semester exams were centralized exams taken by the University of Calcutta.
Other: Our college takes pride in providing a fun student life. There were various extra-curricular activities, seminars and workshops being hosted. There were various clubs like photography, film and drama, debate, etc. The students' committee was a large part of the college. The annual college fest, Aalap, was very fun and was organized by the students and the teachers' committee.

Review of Bethune College.
Placements: Around 95% of students were placed. The average salary package offered was 4 LPA. TCS, Infosys, and Wipro were the top recruiting companies. Most of the students were not interested in placements, and they opt for higher studies i.e masters' and Ph.D.
Infrastructure: Our department was well-equipped with air-conditioners and a computer laboratory. The campus atmosphere was beautiful, and the environment was peaceful. The library was well stocked with every book needed for the course. It provides a separate sports room where every kind of sports equipment was available. There was also a gym for students to use.
Faculty: Faculty members were well qualified and cooperative. They give equal attention to every student. One can easily communicate with teachers in case of any difficulty. Classes were taken regularly. In our previous semester, students were given compulsory projects, and the professors were helpful.

ABOUT THE HERITAGE: BETHUNE COLLEGE, Kolkata.
Placements: Being a government college, the placement is not a subject to be raised for, yet we do have career counseling seminars and orientation that help the students choose their right career. On average, the salary of a student passing from Bethune College is expected to be 4 Lacs per annum. However, it still varies due to the list of skills and polished work you have within yourself.
Infrastructure: The hostel is well-furnished and has a high living lifestyle with spacious rooms and accommodation. But there are two negative reviews: one, it is located far away from the main campus even though college buses are there to bring students from college to hostel and hostel to college. Second, the mess food is not up to the mark.
Faculty: The teachers are really helpful; they are highly qualified. Almost 70% of the teachers are Doctorates, and they have their own unique style of teaching. Our curriculum is based on the syllabus of Calcutta University, so we have to follow it as it is. But the teaching style and notes giving are very helpful. Students have to write lengthy paragraphs which I personally don't like because, after all, I don't think students need stress on theory more than practical to be industry-ready. The semester exams are quite difficult, to be honest. The papers are from Calcutta University, which is infamous for setting up the most critical papers. And though the passing percentage is less than 35%, I still think it is quite tough to pass even if you write full paragraphs.
Other: Political Science is a good course to study for civil service. After passing out, I'm going to study for civil service, hence I opted for this course. I hope the question pattern changes as time goes by because it is really unnecessary to write full-length paragraphs just to score a few marks. Our college hosts events and inter-college competitions every year. AALAP is the famous event held every year in winters. The campus is located on the proper route so every mode of transport is available. We also have scholarships provided by the West Bengal government like Kanyashree, Aikashree, and Oasis.
