B.Sc. (Hons.) in Microbiology - Batch of 2027

It is one of the best colleges for microbiology.
Placements: It's a government college so placement rate is not so good. The placement rate for undergraduate course is normally 66%. Job based internships are not provided but curriculum based internships are offered which play a pivotal role in enhancing practical skills and industry exposure.
Infrastructure: The campus is large but lacks proper maintenance. Classrooms are well-equipped with projectors and are in good condition. Laboratories are excellent. Wi-Fi facilities is not available. The library is spacious and has a good collection of books. There is a canteen on campus that provides decent food. A large playground is available for students to practice various sports, along with a badminton court. Hostel facilities are not provided by the college.
Faculty: The microbiology department has eight faculty members, all experienced and holding PhD degrees. In my opinion, there is no need for private tuition. Semester exams range from moderate to difficult. Professors conduct frequent class tests to prepare students for exams. They also encourage participation in various internship programs, helping students become industry-ready.
Other: The college has around 2,000 students. Seniors are friendly and helpful. The annual fest, Dhun, is celebrated every year, along with Basanta Utsav and Saraswati Puja, which are filled with joy and enthusiasm. The campus has a pleasant atmosphere with greenery all around.

College life at Bidhannagar College, Salt Lake.
Placements: Placement assistance is not available on campus. However, the college or departments will help us find internships that are related to your subject or field of study. In my course, only 25% of the students were selected for an internship at the Anthropological Survey of India in Kolkata. Most students in our course plan to continue their studies with research, a Ph.D., or a teaching career.
Infrastructure: The infrastructure at Bidhannagar College is above average. There are two buildings, one for bachelor's departments and the other for master's degree departments. Classrooms are neat but small. Wi-Fi is not available for students' personal use. The canteen food is average, and medical facilities are available. There is a sports room for playing table tennis and other games, and a playground on campus.
Faculty: All of the teachers are highly qualified, with major degrees and experience in their respective fields of study. They provide guidance with both the studies and counselling on what your goals are. The course curriculum at the Bachelor's level focuses on theoretical knowledge, while post-graduation students learn from practical and field work, which is good for getting experience in research. The exams are moderately difficult, with a pass percentage of 90%.
Other: I chose my course because I wanted to learn about human biology and physiology and how they relate to other aspects of anthropology. The college has a lot of extracurricular activities, including an annual festival in July, a freshers' party, and a farewell party (the date of which depends on the department). The extracurricular activities include drawing and artwork, sports, singing and recitation, and dance.

Good infrastructure but there is no placement facility in the college .
Placements: No placement facility is there in the college. There is no place meant facility. None has come to recruit us. If they look. Through LinkedIn and others they find one but the college itself doesn't take any initiative to give us internship the roles actually depends upon the course.
Infrastructure: The infrastructure is quite good, with proper fans and lighting, but some of them are not maintained. The library is well-equipped with lots of books, and I don't know about the entire college, but our department has a separate Wi-Fi connection, and the canteen has been closed. I don't know why.
Faculty: The teachers are quite helpful and experienced. The teaching quality is quite good. The college does have a system for industrial training, and maybe they are going to build one. The semester exams don't happen at this college; we have to go to another college to give them. The pass percentage is 30 percent.
Other: I was quite interested in the subject, which is why. I get to know about the different aspects of geography, and it helps me understand the world better. I would like to place more emphasis on the internship part and field or practical work. A scholarship is available.

Recently, there was a NAAC visit. They have specially certified Anthropology.
Placements: Bidhannagar College is one of the best colleges for studying Anthropology. With NEP, there is now the facility of pursuing an Hons degree along with research in the 4th year. Students from the Anthropology department are now doing research in different parts of the world. Some are affiliated with AnSI, a government body.
Infrastructure: The Anthropology department has a great library. The labs are okay but still need a few better instruments. There is management of a smart classroom with a projector system. Each year, our college organizes annual sports, cricket tournaments, and football and kabaddi matches for both males and females.
Faculty: Teachers in our department are great. They are Ph.D. professors with numerous research papers and are still doing their research programs. This is not related to industry, but Anthropology is related to society and social beings, so it helps to make broader perspectives. This course will be truly helpful for a CSE aspirant.
Other: Anthropology is a base of interest for me personally, and I have taken it for Civil Service exams. Yes, there are yearly fests named DHUN and a freshers' program named ALAAP. Especially, our college often organizes seminars and lectures on different interesting topics.

For science students, labs are well-equipped, and the campus is large.
Placements: Almost everyone in the batch gets placement if they want. Many highly reputed companies in the international market come to recruit cadets, such as Chevron, Shell, Nikam, Eagle Star, Fleet Management, Anglo Eastern, Synergy, Torm Tankers, Dyna Gas, etc. Approximately 240 out of 260 students get campus placements. Cadets from the 4th semester are eligible for placements, and lady cadets can sit for placements starting from the 2nd semester.
Infrastructure: College fests are a must for college life, and one will experience many such events throughout their college years. However, there are no fixed festivals, excluding Freshers and Farewell. The college is equipped with a large library, a great place for bookworms like me! The general classrooms do not have any technical advancements, but some classrooms are equipped with smart boards, computers, etc. The college encourages all kinds of sports, like football and cricket. Groups in the college include a student union, with juniors and seniors as members.
Faculty: The faculty-student ratio in my section is 1:36. All the faculty members are highly qualified in their fields and will help you whenever you have doubts. Special mentions include C. Sarkar, Bhattacharya, BK Roy, and B. Roy (Maths); you will fall in love with their teaching methods, as they make the subjects crystal clear. Some faculty members know the subject well but cannot convey it effectively, so you may need to seek help from seniors or YouTube. There are semester-end examinations worth 70 marks, and you have to score 35+ to pass the exam, but it is not that easy to achieve; you need to prepare well, or you may fail. Additionally, there are 2 internals, each containing 10 marks, which are at the discretion of the faculty members. You need to stay updated with the syllabus coverage to score well in the internal examinations.

Went to an unknown place but eventually found a home.
Placements: The college does not provide any kind of placement opportunities to students. The students are only helped by professors who get and share different types of opportunities with the students, but it is not quite helpful. A new career counseling cell has been formed, but for the proper functioning of the cell, it will take some time and effort.
Infrastructure: Many science departments have labs for their practical classes, but some of them are not maintained well and are in poor condition. Apart from that, there are some classrooms that are well-equipped with ICT boards but are not cleaned on a regular basis. The college does not provide a hostel and has no proper medical facilities, but there is a canteen. However, most of the time it’s closed, and the food there is not very cheap, but it’s quite good. The sports facilities and gymnasium are available at the college, but most of the time they are closed.
Faculty: The teachers were highly helpful and experienced. Their teaching quality was very good and friendly. The course curriculum was quite relevant, but it lacked the students' hands-on training in the industry. The college conducted internal exams, which were quite hard, and the semester exams were conducted by the university itself. Many students struggled to pass, with a pass percentage of 30 percent in every single paper.
Other: I chose the course as it was the subject that I liked the most, and I was very keen to study the subject. Most particularly, the course should include internships and a handful of experiences; apart from that, it is quite good. The students were given SVMCM scholarships by the Government of West Bengal to the meritorious students. The campus was in the proper city; that is why it was highly connected and had a good, green location.
