B.Tech. in Food Technology - Batch of 2016

Infrastructure was great, pleasant weather, teacher student connection was awesome.
Placements: There was no placement for B.Tech (FT) programme. We were the 2nd batch with a class strength of 7. Thoughts have been used on how to draw in companies for our graduates. Though no placement yet, our graduates have performed very well in entrance exams such as GATE JRF, CAT etc. Winning a ticket to top institutes in India. Let's hope that in time, our graduates are 100% placed.
Infrastructure: CAEPHT has a pilot plant for processing of various agricultural produce such as ginger, turmeric, tomatoes, etc. Students are exposed to these equipment's and gave them industry like experience. Classrooms were spacious with projectors but not all of them. Hostels are equipped with Wi-Fi, Gym, Table tennis, Badminton, etc. Hostel rooms were double and triple. Canteen didn't offer much varied menu. Labs were great, Library has a wide range of books with very helpful staffs. Medical department has a doctor and three nurses with emergency van too. To sum up, infrastructure was good.
Faculty: Faculty members are IIT and top institute alumni but like a typical Indian college, it lacks creativity. Though course structure was a bit different from offered by other institute. I think it was really helpful. Engineering aspects have not been sidelined and instead incorporated in the curriculum. Sikkim has varied processing plant ranging from noodles, milk to medicine. Students often have industrial visit on these plants. Students got a chance to visit different institutes across the country through northeast and all India tour. Also the final year students can have industrial training in the last semester. Our batch instead carry out our dissertation in CFTRI, Mysuru.
Other: Sikkim often host different events and fest including flower exhibition, Agri Fair, etc. Our college often participate in these events with their own display booth offering different tools and technology invented in our college. College week is held every year and students compete in sports and cultural events. Winners represent our college in inter college athletic meet of CAU college held across these campuses. Scholarship was awarded to class toppers by college. Weather was very pleasant all year long. Ranipool a small business hub near the campus provide a suitable market for educational and other needs. Gangtok, a capital of Sikkim is 20 km from campus. Is a clean city with a great view of third the highest peak in the world Kanchenjunga. People of Sikkim are very friendly, you can make great local friends there.
