Formerly known as Imperial Council of Agricultural Research, Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) was established in 1929. ICAR is an autonomous organisation that is a part of the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Government of India

ICAR is the apex body that is trusted with the task of co-ordinating, guiding and conducting research as well as education in the field of agriculture (including horticulture, animal sciences and fisheries science) in the entire country.

There are a total of 102 ICAR institutes and 71 agricultural universities that are spread all over the country. Out of this number, there are four deemed universities, 65 institutions, 14 national research centres, six national bureau and 13 directorates/ project directorates. ICAR admission process

Admission in the majority of the ICAR universities and institutes is offered on the basis of an aspirant’s performance in All India Entrance Examinations for Admission (AIEEA). ICAR AIEEA is conducted by National Testing Agency (NTA) in order to shortlist aspirants for admission in UG, PG and PhD courses offered at agricultural universities.
