Q:   Is B.Com at Gauhati Commerce College a good choice?

    A:
    {Source: B.Com students & alumni}

While the reviews are mixed, here's a summary of the key points:

    * Teaching Quality: The teachers are generally considered knowledgeable and supportive, with some having PhDs in their field. The teaching quality is good, and the course is relevant to the curriculum.
    * Infrastructure: The college has a decent infrastructure, with air-conditioned classrooms, a well-equipped library, and computer labs. However, the hostel facilities are limited, and the food quality is average.
    * Placements: Placements are not a strong suit for B.Com students at Gauhati Commerce College. While some students get internships, the job offers are limited, and the salary packages are modest (average INR 2-3 Lacs per annum).
    * Course Curriculum: The course curriculum is relevant, providing a solid grounding in business and commerce. However, some students feel that it could benefit from more practical applications and hands-on learning experiences.
    * Student Life: Student life at Gauhati Commerce College is lively, with frequent events and festivals organized by the college and student clubs. However, the college lacks a girls' hostel and has limited recreational facilities.

Ultimately, whether B.Com at Gauhati Commerce College is a good choice depends on individual preferences and priorities. If you're looking for a course with a strong emphasis on theory and academics, this college might be suitable. However, if you're seeking a more industry-focused or practically oriented programme with stronger job prospects, you may want to consider alternative options.

In conclusion, while Gauhati Commerce College has its strengths, the B.Com programme faces challenges when it comes to placements and internship opportunities. Prospective students should weigh these factors carefully and consider visiting the college to get a firsthand sense of the academic and extracurricular atmosphere.

    A:

Effectiveness of Placement Cell for B.Com Courses at Gauhati Commerce College

Unfortunately, the placement cell at Gauhati Commerce College seems to be lacking, especially for B.Com students. According to various reviews, there is no dedicated placement cell for B.Com students, and the ones mentioned seem to be irregular and unreliable.

    * No internship opportunities: Many students reported that there are no internship opportunities or group discussions offered by the college, which hinders their preparation for placements.

    Highly satisfied with the degree.
Placements: The placement percentage of our B.Com batch has declined since COVID-19. Out of 770+ students, only 50+ were placed. The average package this year is 3,00,000 LPA, and most of the recruiters are local companies from Guwahati.
Infrastructure: The classrooms are spacious and have air conditioning. The college has a library with all the books that we needed. The college also has good Wi-Fi connectivity. The canteen is hygienic, and there are sports facilities on campus. However, the college only has a boys hostel.
Faculty: The teachers are very helpful and highly qualified with their respective degrees. This course, B.Com, is really relevant if anyone is looking for the theoretical knowledge of industry.

Gauhati Commerce College is one of the most famous colleges, mainly for studying commerce.
Placements: All of our students passed out with 90% from our college. The highest offers by our college in the course are business studies, and the lowest is in physical training like sports and music. The top recruitment companies, like investment decision companies, and IIT, are highly in demand from our college.
Infrastructure: Every facility and infrastructure is amazing in our college, like classrooms, library, department block, canteen, and the college compound, which are environment-friendly. The boys' hostel is also amazing, as well as there is extra physical training like the gym and NCC.
Faculty: The faculty in our college is also amazing and highly qualified, and we can understand their teaching methods as well. Also, there are lots of qualified teachers, department-wise, and most teachers have done their Ph.D. degrees, which we can say are highly qualified.
Other: I'm in the 2022-2025 batch. I chose this course because I like to study business. The best thing about my course is management studies. The thing which I would improve in my course is accountancy.

The final piece of information you will need to decide your dream college.
Placements: There are only a small number of students who get placed after completing their bachelor's. The highest till now is around 7 to 8 LPA, and the lowest is around 2.5 to 3 LPA. Most of the companies that hire are in insurance or banking, which require accounting. An internship from a college is very rare and only one or two are selected.
Infrastructure: The college is quite large, having 5 buildings divided in blocks. There is a library of medium size where you can find numerous books of accounting, management, economics, etc. There is an MBA block for management students near the library. The third block consists of the principal office, B.Com. and H.S. blocks, and the counter. The fourth consists of teachers' office of every department. The fifth and last are for the M.Com. and BBA students. hostel provides with many facilities like medical, sports, etc. The food is good as compared to the hostel charges. The buildings are a bit old, and besides, there may be food in the hostel during heavy and continuous rain.
Faculty: The teachers are well qualified, holding master's degrees and some with Ph.D.s as well. The teaching approach is mainly exam-oriented, where you will score well on exams but it can be improved by implementing a more basic-based approach, which can be helpful in the future. The course curriculum is good but not enough to be industry-ready. The semester exams are moderate and you can get a good score by concentrating in the classes and taking notes. The pass percentage is almost 80%.

    Good college for commerce students.
Placements: Honestly, our college doesn't provide this placement, and about the package, no idea still now. Very few people got internships from the college, only top students. Apart from B.Com, courses like BBA, M.Com, and MBA are available. People who seek these can get admission to this college.
Infrastructure: About infrastructure, it's good enough. Our college has a library, auditorium, teacher's own department, canteen, and many more things that a college should need, and they are there. The food in the canteen is good and affordable. About sports and games, they are held every year, and it's good to participate in them.
Faculty: Yes, teachers are good and teach very well and are ready for the students to be industry-ready because theory is more focused rather than practical. About exams, it's moderate, but sometimes it's difficult. Apart from this, it's sometimes very difficult to pass the exam.
Other: I chose this course because I want to become an accountant. The best thing is that it gives you knowledge about financial education. About improvement, the cleanliness of the toilets should be maintained. About activities, it's moderate.

I am totally satisfied with college infrastructure, great companies have hire so many students.
Placements: 49% of students were paced in this course. The highest package offered was 5lakhs per annum by PWC. And the lowest was 2lakhs 50 thousand per annum. And average was 3lakhs 80 thousand. Top companies were: TCS, PWC, Hdfc bank, Axis Bank, Asian paint. 26% got internship in TCS, Tata steel, Tata motors Top roles offered were Team Lead, Finance head, Quality checker.
Infrastructure: The college has good infrastructure. Wi-Fi, projector, AC rooms, and AI are available for some specific projects. The hostel provides protein-rich food with both vegetarian and non-veg options. A sick room is available for students, and an ambulance is on call for emergencies. The college has a huge area that includes a basketball court, badminton court, football field, cricket field, and a large indoor games room. The college also has a swimming pool.
Faculty: The teachers and professors are very experienced, and the teaching quality is great. This course will definitely prepare us to enter the finance industry. The pass percentage is quite high, at 94%. The papers are prepared by the Assam board, so the difficulty level depends on the student. However, if we prepare well, there will be no problem passing.
Other: My course is in finance, which I am very fond of. It helps me explore the finance industry. However, I think the course should focus more on finance classes, as we have to study other subjects that are irrelevant to finance. The college has one annual fest that starts with a cultural program and ends with a DJ night. It is a seven-day program. There are merit-based scholarships and reservation-based scholarships available to students.

3 years at Gauhati Commerce College.
Placements: The placement cell is almost obsolete in the college. There is no opportunity for internships, group discussion or other personality development programmes. Very few companies with very low-profile job opportunities come for the placement of B.Com. students. However, the placement opportunity for an MBA in the college is better than a B.Com.
Infrastructure: It provides hostel facilities only for boys. The majority of classrooms are air-conditioned and in good condition. However, the location of the college and the satisfactory sewage system of the city cause nuisance during rains, as water logging is a major and still unheard problem.
Faculty: The teachers are quite friendly and impartial towards students. They are educated, well qualified and treat the students equally. The course is theoretical and we were provided very little scope of gaining real field knowledge The semester exams were standard and the level of difficulty was moderate .
Other: This college is good for students pursuing CA, CS, or CMA and other professional courses other than academic studies. They condone the attendance criteria if requested.
