Q:   Are admissions at Homi Bhabha National Institute Mumbai entrance-based or merit-based?

A: 

The Homi Bhabha National Institute (HBNI) in Mumbai admits students on an admission basis. The institute provides postgraduate and doctoral studies. Diploma and PG courses require graduation in the relevant disciplines. Postgraduate degree holders may apply for research courses. Admission to all courses is dependent on an entrance exam. The admission exam will be administered in offline form as a written test. Applications for admissions must be filed offline.

A: 

Homi Bhabha National Institute, Mumbai is one of the prestigious institute is a government institute established by the Department of Atomic Energy and approved by UGC. One can get admission in the institute through various entrance exams which depend on the courses such as:-

  1. Neet (ug) for undergraduate courses in the medical field and Neet (pg) for postgraduate courses in the medical field which includes Doctorate of Medicine (M.D.), radiation medicine etc.
  2. For engineering courses one has to give Jee Mains for undergraduate courses and Gate examination for postgraduate courses such as M.Tech and B.Tech in various domains like electrical, mechanical, computer engineering, etc.
  3. Also, there is another university examination known as Nest which is specific for the university that provides admission to MSc and BSc programmes.

Q:   What is the selection process for M Tech and what is the minimum GATE percentile required?

A: 

The selection process for M.Tech includes:

1. Applying with a valid GATE score.

2. Shortlisting based on GATE score and/or additional factors.

3. Some institutes offer interviews or written exams. 

4. The final selection is based on performance in these rounds. 

The minimal GATE percentile varies according to institute and expertise. In general, a GATE rank of less than 200 is considered good for IITs, but a rank of 350-800 is considered ideal for NITs. For correct information, please refer to the institute's specific criteria.
