AAT 2025 counselling will not be held separately by the authorities. Qualified AAT candidates will be required to participate in the counselling process, which will be conducted by the Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA). After qualifying AAT, the candidates will have to register for JoSAA 2025 and fill out their choice of colleges in the order of preference. JoSAA is conducted annually as a counselling process for admissions into the NITs, IIITs, GFTIs and IITs. For BArch admissions into the participating IITs, the candidates need to qualify JEE Advanced 2025 and AAT 2025. The admission process for admissions in 23 IITs, 31 NITs, IIEST Shibpur, 26 IIITs and 40 Other-Government Funded Technical Institutes (Other-GFTIs) will be done by JoSAA in various rounds deending on various factors. In these rounds, candidates are allotted seats based on their JEE Main or JEE Advanced rank and preferences filled by them during registration. Candidates who are allotted seats have to either accept or float the seat.

Steps of JoSAA Counselling and Seat Allotment 2025

After qualifying AAT 2025, the candidates will have to follow the given steps to be registered for the JoSAA 2025 counselling and seat allotment process. 

  • Registration: Firstly, the candidates will have to visit the official website of JoSAA 2025 and log in using their JEE Main roll number and JEE Advanced password. Next, the candidates will have to check the existing information and confirm if there are no mistakes. 
  • Choice Filling: After checking the details, the candidates will have to select their choice of course and college in the order of preference. Since BArch is available only in IIT Kharagpur, IIT Varanasi and IIT Roorkee, the candidates will have to keep the order of selection as per preference.
  • Mock Allotment: Two rounds of mock allotment will be held to let the candidates know their possible allotment as per their current order of preference and rank. Re-arrangement of preferences can be done by the candidates.
  • Seat Allotment: Candidates will be able to check their seat allotment result in online mode. After checking the result, the candidates will have to confirm their admission.
  • Payment of Fee: To confirm admission, the candidates will have to pay the seat acceptance fee.
  • Reporting at Centre: Next, the candidates will have to report to their respective JoSAA 2025 reporting centres for document verification.

The Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA) will prepare the AAT cutoff, which will be released as JoSAA 2025 admission cutoffs. The opening and closing ranks for admissions into the participating institutes for BArch admissions will be released through the JoSAA/AAT 2025 cutoff. Q:   Is JoSAA counselling fees refundable?

A:

Seat acceptance fee, once paid, is not refundable. However, if a candidate later validly withdraws from the seat allocation process, then the seat acceptance fee paid will be refunded after deducting the JoSAA withdrawal processing charges of INR 7000. If a candidate’s seat is cancelled due to not meeting the eligibility criteria or due to unresolved discrepancy(ies) in the uploaded document(s), then the seat acceptance fee paid will be refunded after deducting the JoSAA processing charges of Rs. 5000. However, in general, the refund policies for counselling fees may vary depending on the institution and the specific circumstances surrounding the payment. It is best to check the official website of JoSAA or contact their helpline for the most up-to-date information on their refund policies.

Q:   Is JoSAA counselling free? If not, how much does a candidate have to pay for it?

A:

The filling-in of choices on the online portal is free of cost. The candidate must pay the seat acceptance fee before continuing with the JoSAA process till the end to avail the seat in an IIT or NIT. The documents uploaded by the candidate will not be verified unless the candidate pays the seat acceptance fee. General/Open category candidates are required to pay a fee of INR 35,000, whereas SC, Gen-PwD, ST, OBC-NCL-PwD, ST-PwD, and SC-PwD have to pay INR 17,500. The fees will be included in the semester fees once students confirm their admission.

The Ashoka Aptitude Test is conducted in several sessions at different times throughout the year. It is advisable that candidates start preparing for the entrance exam at least two months is advance. For instance, if your exam is to be conducted in December, you should start preparations in October.

The JEE Advanced AAT is required for admission to BArch programs at IIT Varanasi, IIT Roorkee, and IIT Kharagpur. To gain admission to architecture at any of these IITs, candidates must first qualify for JEE Main, followed by JEE Advanced, and then pass the AAT.
