Overview

JoSAA 2026 Dates: The Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA) has released the JoSAA counselling dates 2026 on its official website, josaa.nic.in. The seat allotment of JoSAA round 1 is out and the online reporting process will go on till June 26.

JoSAA consists of six rounds. Each round consists of the following steps: seat allotment, seat confirmation by candidates, online reporting at the allotted institute, and payment of fees. After all the rounds, any vacant seats remaining will be allotted via the CSAB counselling 2026. JoSAA Counselling 2026 Seat Allotment Dates

The Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA) releases the JoSAA seat allotment result for each round. To check the seat allotment result, candidates have to login into the JoSAA portal using their JEE Main application number and password.

Seats are allotted to the candidates based on their JEE Main/JEE Advanced ranks, and also their category. After allotment of the seats, candidates must download the "Initial Seat Allotment Intimation Slip", which has the information about the allotted seat. Candidates have to login to the JoSAA portal to check if a seat has been allocated during a specific round of seat allocation. No separate intimation of seat allocation will be provided to the candidate.

Q:   Will choice filling be available in every round of JoSAA counselling?

No. You are only allowed to fill choices once before entering the first round of counselling and that choice list is final. Candidates are given only one chance to enter their choice, edit the choices, rearrange them before the choice filling deadline. All candidates have to save and lock their choices within the prescribed deadline. No more chances to fill.edit/rearrange the choices will be provided in the subsequent rounds of JoSAA counselling.

JoSAA 2026 Seat Acceptance Date

After candidates get a seat in JoSAA counselling, they have to confirm the seat by accepting it as per the deadline. They can either freeze the allotted seat or they can float or slide.

Check what freeze, float and slide mean below:

Freeze Seat accepted. Candidates desire no upgradation or change in seat.
Float Candidates select the float option if they want a better college and course from their preference list.
Slide This option means candidates want a better course preference from their choice list, but in the same institution allotted.

How to Check JoSAA Seat Allotment Result 2026

Check the process below to check the JoSAA seat allotment result:

  1. Visit the official JoSAA website and follow the seat allotment link.
  2. Now the JoSA login will open. Here, enter the JEE Main application number and password.
  3. Once the login is successful, candidates can check the seat allotment result.
  4. Check the allotted college and course and save the page for reference.

JoSAA 2026 Documents Verification and Online Reporting Date

Once the seats are allotted, candidates have to upload the required documents for JoSAA counselling on the JoSAA portal for verification. If a query is raised by the verification officer regarding the documents, then they will have to respond to the queries with a valid document and explanation within the deadline.  If the query is not resolved, the candidate will be eliminated from the JoSAA counselling.

Q:   I am an Indian citizen, and I mistakenly added my nationality as a foreigner in the forms. Can I change my nationality in JoSAA portal?
A: 

You can update your nationality in the JoSAA portal from foreign national to Indian. Once the nationality status is changed, you will be eligible for seats in IITs under the GEN category only. If you have already been allocated a seat, it will be cancelled, and you will be considered for seat allocation in subsequent rounds (if any) under the OPEN category, provided you -

  1. submit proof of Indian nationality, and
  2. meet all other eligibility criteria for Indian nationals, including satisfying the JEE (Main) cut-off marks for qualifying for JEE (Advanced) in the GEN category.
Q:   I am a PwD candidate in JoSAA counselling, but I do not have a valid UDID card, what to do?
A: 

If you do not have a valid UDID card indicating permanent disability and are seeking a seat in IITs through JoSAA, you must visit any of the IITs for physical verification, bringing a copy of your PwD certificate.

JoSAA Registration Dates 2026

JoSAA registration link is activated at josaa.nic.in. The candidates who qualify JEE Advanced 2026 can apply for JoSAA 2026 for IIT admission. On the other hand, the candidates who will have a rank of JEE Main 2026 can also fill JoSAA application form 2026 for admission to NITs, IIEST, IIITs, and other GFTIs. Candidates who wish to be admitted to the IITs and the NIT+ systems must register for JoSAA 2026 counselling. Candidates need to authenticate themselves using JEE Main 2026 application number, candidate name, mother’s name and date of birth and then verify the OTP sent on the JEE Main 2026 registered mobile number and email ID.

To register with JoSAA, candidates must first authenticate their identity using JEE Main 2026 details. Click “New Candidate Registration,” fill in the necessary information, and verify the OTP sent to your registered email and phone. Next, create a password for the JoSAA portal and log in using your JEE Main 2026 application number. Verify the OTP again and review your personal details, JEE Main/Advanced ranks, and other relevant information. If everything is correct, confirm your registration; if not, click ‘edit.’

JoSAA 2026 Choice Filling Dates

The JoSAA 2026 registration and choice filling window opens simultaneously. After registering, candidates can enter and rearrange their preferences. Once satisfied with their selections, they can save the list. Before the deadline for JoSAA choice filling, candidates can revise their choices as many times as they wish. However, candidates must lock in their choices before the last date, or else the system will automatically finalise their last preference order. After choices are locked, candidates will not be able to alter their selections or the order of those selections.
