Q:   What is the sectional time limit in IPMAT?

A:

The IPMAT exam is conducted for two hours or 120 minutes. The exam is conducted every year in the computer-based test mode. There are three sections in the IPMAT question paper, I. e. two sections on Quantitative Aptitude and one section on Verbal Ability. Each section is to be solved within 40 minutes. Since IPMAT is a centre-based online exam the test screen will move from first section to the next section automatically as soon as the time limit gets over. Thus candidates have to be mindful of the on-screen timer and pre-decide the number of questions to solve in each section. It is not mandatory to solve all the questions in IPMAT exam so candidates can devise a strategy to use 40 minutes per section as per their strength and weakness. Candidates must also keep in mind the negative marking in the IPMAT exam. One mark will be deducted from the overall score for each incorrect answer.

Q:   Is IPMAT more difficult than SET (Symbiosis Entrance Test)?

A:

Comparing the difficulty level of IPMAT and SET can be subjective and depends on various factors such as individual strengths, preparation, and familiarity with the exam pattern.

IPMAT, conducted by IIM Indore, is specifically designed for admission to the five-year Integrated Program in Management (IPM). It assesses a candidate's aptitude and proficiency in areas such as Quantitative Aptitude and Verbal Ability. The exam is known for its challenging and analytical nature, testing the candidate's problem-solving skills, logical reasoning, and time management abilities. Also, the QA section is a slightly tricker than the QA section of the SET exam.

On the other hand, the Symbiosis Entrance Test (SET) is conducted by Symbiosis International (Deemed University) for admission to various undergraduate programs offered by different institutes under the Symbiosis umbrella. The difficulty level of SET can vary depending on the specificprogrammeyou are applying for. The exam generally focuses on testing a candidate's knowledge, logical reasoning, analytical ability, and general awareness.

Both IPMAT and SET have their unique exam patterns, sections, and syllabi. The difficulty level of these BBA entrance exams can vary based on the individual's strengths and weaknesses in different subjects. Some candidates may find IPMAT more challenging due to its analytical and problem-solving nature, while others may find SET more difficult based on the specific sections and topics covered.

It's important to note that the difficulty level of an exam should not solely determine your decision to appear for it. Consider factors such as your interests, career goals, and the specificprogrammeor institute you wish to pursue. Focus on your preparation, understand the exam pattern and syllabus, and develop a study strategy that suits your strengths and weaknesses to perform well in the exam.

Q:   Can I prepare for IPMAT without coaching? Also, I'm from the commerce stream without maths. So what should I do?

A:

Yes, you can definitely prepare for IPMAT without coaching, even if you do not have a strong background in mathematics. Many students have successfully cracked the exam through self-study and dedicated preparation. While the Quantitative Ability section does involve mathematics, you can still prepare for it without formal coaching. Start by understanding the basic concepts from NCERT mathematics textbooks of Class 9 and Class 10. Focus on topics such as arithmetic, percentages, ratios, algebra, and data interpretation. There are plenty of online resources and study materials available that can help you with the required mathematics concepts. Take advantage of online resources, including video tutorials, practice questions, and mock tests available on various educational websites and YouTube channels. These resources can provide comprehensive explanations and guidance for self-study.

Q:   What is the selection process through IPMAT?

A:

The selection procedure through IPMAT basically consists of two stages, i.e. IPMAT exam and WAT-PI:

  1. IPMAT Exam: The first stage is the IPMAT exam itself. It is a computer-based test that assesses a candidate's aptitude and proficiency in areas such as Quantitative Aptitude (QA) and Verbal Ability (VA). The exam consists of multiple-choice questions (MCQs) as well as Short-Answer type questions, and the scores obtained in this exam serve as the basis for shortlisting candidates for the next stage.

  2. Written Ability Test (WAT) and Personal Interview (PI): Shortlisted candidates from the IPMAT proceed to the second stage if they match the cutoff criteria, which involves a Written Ability Test (WAT) and Personal Interview (PI). The WAT assesses a candidate's written communication skills and ability to express their thoughts coherently on a given topic. The PI evaluates a candidate's overall personality, communication skills, confidence, and suitability for the programme.

The WAT and PI rounds are conducted by IIM Indore, the exam conducting body of IPMAT. The weightage assigned to each component of the selection process may vary each year. Generally, the IPMAT exam score holds significant weightage in the selection process, while the WAT and PI performance also play a crucial role in the final selection.

  2. Shortlisted candidates receive call letters or emails containing details of the counselling schedule, venue, and instructions for the counselling process.

  5. Seats are allotted to candidates based on their IPMAT rank Higher-ranked candidates have a better chance of securing a seat. After the seat allotment, candidates who are satisfied with their allotted seat need to confirm their acceptance by paying the required admission fees within the specified time frame. This step confirms their seat in the programme.

  6. In case of any vacant seats or withdrawal of candidates, there might be additional rounds of counseling or a waitlist to fill those seats.

Q:   How is the final IPMAT score calculated?

A:

IPMAT score is determined on the basis of correct answers marked by aspirants in the IPMAT exam. For each correct answer, candidates are awarded four marks. For an incorrect answer, one mark is deducted from the candidates' total score. This means that for five correct answers, 20 marks will be added to the total score. The raw score of candidates is scaled to calculate the composite score. Candidates who match the IPMAT cutoff criteria are further called for the Personal Interview round.

For final results, 65% weightage is given to the scores obtained by the candidates in the IPMAT exam and 35% weightage is given to the candidate's performance in the Personal Interview (PI).

The IPMAT exam is conducted in the computer-based test mode and the students have to visit the exam centre to take the exam. A:

No, the IPMAT cut-offs are not the same for all categories. The cut-offs typically vary for different categories such as General, OBC, SC, ST, and PwD. Q:   Is IPMAT difficult to crack? I want to know all about the placements in future.

A:

IPMAT is a speed-based test which is designed to assess a candidate's quantitative aptitude skills and command over English comprehension. It may sound tough, but these are the skills which we are taught in school so there is nothing new to learn. What is required is to learn these subjects at a slightly advanced level. All you will need is to brush up on the basics and practice the concepts on advance level problems. Applicants should solve previous years question papers, attempt an ample number of mock tests and be consistent to score well in the IPMAT exam. Having said that, the preparation for the IPMAT exam requires focus, dedication and diligence. If you can do that, despite being an average student, you can crack the IPMAT exam easily. A good preparation strategy can help you crack the IPMAT exam with a good score. Generally, the toughest section of the IPMAT question paper is Quantitative Aptitude (Short Answers). But with daily practice and focusing on understanding the fundamentals, this section of the IPMAT exam can be handled easily. For the Verbal Ability section, students must focus on Grammar and solving various mock tests to improve their vocabulary.
