    Commonly asked questions
    On Placements

Q:   How successful is the placement cell in securing jobs for BS-MS students at IISER Mohali?

    A:

Based on the verified Shiksha reviews and comments from students and alumni of IISER Mohali, here's an assessment of the placement cell's effectiveness, and succesfulness of placements cell. Here are some key points that summarise the concerns:

    • According to several reviews, students typically secure placements independently, with some companies offering on-campus recruitment opportunities.
    • Dr. Reddy's Lab began visiting IISER Mohali in 2019 for chemical Science students, offering packages around INR 5.5 LPA.
    • Some students receive placement offers while pursuing their course, but others prefer to continue their education, seeking PhD programs abroad.
    • Alumni feedback suggests that most students don't participate in the placement process due to their preference for pursuing higher education over taking up employment immediately.

Conclusively, while there may be occasional on-campus recruitment drives, IISER Mohali doesn't have a formal placement cell, and students largely rely on self-initiative to secure employment.

    IISER Mohali 2024 glimpses.
Placements: Placements are very low and often low package if available. Usually data science minors may opt for placements. Most people opt for PhDs after BS-MS. Since it is not a professional course, there's flexibility in choosing careers. Some may even go for corporate jobs or government jobs unrelated to their topic.
Infrastructure: Students wifi is available almost everywhere at the campus. Labs are the most fun place, well maintained and rare instruments are present. A 7-floor library is available for use. Most study-related books can be taken from the library itself. Students run mess and the canteen operates throughout the year and offers good-quality food.
Faculty: Teachers are well-qualified; they have PhDs and postdocs from the top most institutions. They will guide you if you reach out to them. The course curriculum is not the best but offers a basic understanding of the underlying properties. Pass percentages are often subject to change according to the instructor.
Other: Since Indians are multicultural, we often celebrate almost all the festivities, including Holi, Diwali, Onam, Pongal, Ganesh Chaturthi, Garba, etc. Top ranking and global accreditation are two of the reasons I chose ISM.

A good all rounder institute, and one of the best places to pursue research in India.
Placements: IISER Mohali doesn't have placements like typical engineering colleges. It is a research institute, and hence students opt to pursue higher education instead, I. e. PhDs. There are no packages offered but students wishing to work in the industry find jobs in R&D departments of companies. Many students wish to work as professors and go into education. You have the option to take a BS exist as well, without completing the whole BSMS course. Internships are provided to pursue research within the country and abroad.
Infrastructure: Although lifestyle here isn't extravagant, hostel and mess facilities at IISER Mohali are pretty good compared to a lot of other institutes in India. There exist multiple mess options, both subscription and coupon based. The quality of the food is decent and the menu is varied often. Wi-fi speed can vary depending upon how close you are to the routers, but it can cross 200-300 mbps at certain locations. IISER Mohali has one of the largest institute libraries in the country, 7 stories high, and is also air conditioned. Some floors start on throughout the night. There are two buildings solely dedicated to various labs and classrooms. Lectures take place in a lecture hall complex which consists of around 7 halls, varying in sizes. There is a large health center building which stays largely unused. You will get basic healthcare facilities there, along with therapists if you require them. There are two canteens, which are decent at best, but they get the job done. There is a sports complex and a community center. Sports facilities are good for sports like tennis, volleyball, cricket, football, badminton, and basketball. Table tennis, kabaddi, and other sports, not so much. Overall, quality of life at IISER Mohali is comfortable and satisfactory.
Faculty: The teachers are a mixed batch. Some of them will almost treat you like family, some will try to stay as detached from students as possible. The curriculum is decided by the teacher of the particular course, and the grading is revised every year if the professor so choose. Exams and study material for the first two years is very easy if you put in the time and effort. The other three years, the major years, will have you study the courses of your choice. Most students pass with ease. The course content is very up to date with the research happening in the field.
Other: The student culture at IISER Mohali is one of its the biggest strengths. There is near to no ragging, seniors are almost always helpful and supportive, and students treat each others as equal. We have been known to hold protests if things are wrong and unjust and there is an appreciable amount of unity among the student body. There are a lot of academic and cultural clubs here, with events happening very frequently. It is a very lively campus in that aspect. I spent a sizable part of my first two years doing a lot of extracurricular work.

College is your type if you are an aspiring scientist.
Placements: The placement environment here is not yet developed, though there is an opportunity cell that handles all this, which is also quite new. Moreover, most students after graduation from here pursue Ph.D. and postdoctoral studies, and for these, IISER Mohali provides good exposure and ample opportunities.
Infrastructure: The infrastructure is satisfactory. Wi-Fi works fine, and the labs are nice. Lecture halls are very nice with good lighting, air conditioning, projectors, etc. Food is fine, in my opinion. The breakfast is very good but sometimes they serve very bad-tasting food in lunch or dinner. There are 2 canteens run by private vendors, one food outlet in lecture hall complex ("munching adda"), 2 restaurant-type outlets ( or dhaba-type outlets in shopping complex) and one canteen run by student mess committee. Medical facilities are fine, and there is also all-time availability of ambulance. We have a very big sports complex with big stadium-type ground, nets, and basketball, volleyball, and tennis courts (2 each) One gym and one open gym are also .
Faculty: Teachers are very qualified. All of them have done their Ph.D.s and postdocs from some of the most prestigious institutes in India and abroad. course curriculum is relevant for research. No, it doesn't make you industry-ready. You have to work yourself if you want to make a career in industry. Difficulty depends on the instructor. However, since relatively strict grading is followed, most students pass the courses .

IISER Mohali offers the best quality facilities, faculty and placement opportunities to students.
Placements: In the IISER, Mohali, around 40–45% of the students get placements in our course. In our course, the average package offered was between 4 and 7 LPA. Various research and development companies visit our college for placements. The top roles offered were researchers, project heads, research interns, etc. in our course. Students also get internship opportunities at this college.
Infrastructure: IISER Mohali has really good-quality facilities and infrastructure for our course. Our college has all the necessary facilities for the students on campus. Wi-Fi, labs, library, canteen, sports, etc. facilities were available for the students on the college campus. The college had a pretty beautiful campus. Hostel facilities were also given to the students. The food in the hostel mess was good to eat. Sports facilities were also available for the students.
Faculty: IISER Mohali has highly qualified and knowledgeable faculty in our course. Teachers at the college were experienced in the teaching field. Teachers were making us understand all the concepts and helping to solve all the doubts. The course curriculum of the IISER for our course was relevant and it makes the students industry-ready. Exams at the college were not hard to pass. Teachers were helping students with research projects.

Absolutely satisfied with the faculty and really an incredible experience to have in life once.
Placements: Most people probably wanted to do their respective doctoral work in foreign countries but did not get placed. The highest package was 10 lacs and the lowest was 6 lacs. Most of the companies were looking for research associates. You can get an internship anywhere around the world.
Infrastructure: Facilities here are very good; you can access the library online and offline too. There is separate Wi-Fi on the whole campus for students. Everything you need on a good campus, you can have here. Laboratories, lecture halls and libraries—everything is well air-conditioned.
Faculty: Most of the faculty members are helpful, well qualified and knowledgeable, and some of them are very helpful if you reach out to them for any kind of problem. They will guide you to the needful. The course curriculum offered here is relevant only in the research field. You can also select or choose some relevant courses from different industries.

A very good institute and good infrastructure but very bad placements.
Placements: About only 10 students got placed because it is a research institute, but students went abroad for higher studies like Ph.D. in well-known universities across the world. The average package of placed students is about 8 LPA, so if you are looking for placements, this institute is not for you.
Infrastructure: The infrastructure of this institute is very good. Labs are also good. Classrooms and labs have ACs. Wi-Fi is also provided to students, and the library of this institute is one of the best libraries in India. The quality of food available in the mess and canteen is also okay.
Faculty: The teachers are very helpful, and each of them has a minimum degree of Ph.D. They are very knowledgeable in their respective subjects, and the teaching quality is also good. The semester exams are easy for first-year students. The passing percentage has no sense there because there is a relatively grading system.
Other: I have chosen this course because I have an interest in research, and this is one of the best research institutes in India. There are many events in the odd semester but not in the even semester.
