Worth the Investment? : An Analysis of UPES School of Advanced Engineering's M.E/M.Tech Program

Based on student reviews and feedback, here's an analysis of whether pursuing an M.E/M.Tech programme at UPES School of Advanced Engineering is worth the investment:

Infrastructure and Facilities
* Well-maintained laboratories, classrooms, and library
* Good food quality in the mess and hostels
* Clean and well-kept hostels with amenities like Wi-Fi, laundry services, and entertainment areas
* Sports facilities available, although not extensively used

Teaching and Curriculum
* Highly qualified and knowledgeable faculty members
* Research-oriented course curriculum
* Teachers supportive and willing to address student doubts

Placements and Internships
* Limited placement opportunities for M.Tech students, with only one company visiting campus in recent years
* Industrial internship programme available, with most students securing internships
* Some students secured jobs through personal connections, but none through campus placements

Overall Experience
* Beautiful campus location in Dehradun, Uttarakhand
* Friendly and approachable faculty members
* Opportunities for student exchange programs with international universities

While the programme has its strengths, particularly in terms of infrastructure and faculty, the limited placement opportunities may raise concerns. It is essential for prospective students to weigh these factors carefully before making an informed decision.

Q:   Is B.Sc. at UPES School of Advanced Engineering a good choice?

A:
{Source: B.Sc. students & alumni}

Based on the reviews and feedback from students and alumni, here's what we've gathered:

Pros:

* Good Infrastructure: Well-equipped labs, classrooms, and a modern library with access to online resources.
* Qualified Faculty: Friendly, knowledgeable, and experienced professors who provide a high-quality education.
* Campus Life: Beautiful campus with amenities like hostels, mess, canteen, medical facilities, and sports and games facilities.
* Research Opportunities: Encouragement to participate in research projects and collaborations with experts in the field.
* Exposure: Opportunity to interact with professionals and learn about real-world applications.

Cons:

* No Placement Facility: Unfortunately, there is no dedicated placement facility for B.Sc. students.
* High Competition: High competition among students for placements and internships.
* Wi-Fi Issues: Poor internet connectivity issues reported by some students.

Placement Record:

According to some students, while there may not be a dedicated placement facility, students can still participate in the general placement process, and around 80% of students secured jobs with an average salary package of INR5-6 LPA in the previous year. Some students also mentioned getting internships in organizations like ONGC and DRDO.

Conclusion:
While the lack of a dedicated placement facility might be a concern, the B.Sc. programme at UPES School of Advanced Engineering seems to offer a strong foundation in physics with opportunities for research and collaboration. However, students must be aware of the potential challenges in securing placements. With hard work and dedication, students can still secure good internships and employment opportunities. Ultimately, whether the programme is "good" depends on individual goals and aspirations.

The University of Tomorrow.
Placements: The placements are good in the university, if you are good at academics and you have the skills. Around 90% students get placements directly if they have skills and good amount of knowledge and rest some percent suffer due to their lack of interaction and interest in the college.
Infrastructure: Infrastructure and environment is good and healthy. The university is surrounded by mountains and good scenic beauty. The campus also provides different facilities like ATM, infirmary, hostel facilities, food court and many more.
Faculty: They are nice to everyone. Faculty members are like friends in the campus and they not only help in academics but also helps in personal matters. They are very humble and always welcome their students. The university also provides many extra curricular activities.
Other: I am able to expand my skills.

UPES: EXPLORE THE PLACE FOR OPPORTUNITIES.
Placements: Currently, we have 35 students in our batch. We have been enrolled this year. Top recruiting companies are Reliance Industries, ONGC, Cairn India, Oil India Limited, Bharat Petroleum Limited, TotalEnergies, Schlumberger, and Halliburton. Top roles are reservoir engineer, drilling engineer, production engineer, petroleum geologist, and project engineer. The highest package is 15–25 lacs, the average package is 8–12 lacs, and the lowest package is 4–6 lacs. Around 65%–80% of students got internships among the following companies: ONGC, Cairn India, and Reliance Industries Limited, etc.
Infrastructure: It has a range of facilities and infrastructure designed to support academic as well as practical learning. UPES has specialized laboratory facilities for drilling, production, and reservoir engineering. Classrooms are well-lit with punching machines for attendance, but both campuses face difficulties in the case of a weak Wi-Fi signal around the campus. Libraries are equipped with proper sitting facilities and all sorts of fiction and nonfiction books.
Faculty: The faculty members were quite helpful, and mostly they are Ph.D. holders, and their notes were helpful in the semester exams. The course is well-designed according to industry requirements and standards, and internships provide diverse knowledge in every sector. Semester exams are quite moderate, each and every question is taught in the lectures, and 75% are able to fulfill the passing criteria.
Other: The main advantage of choosing this college was its placements, internships, and location, which were all suitable for me as I had to pursue my course in B.Tech in Petroleum, and it had tie-ups with some of the renowned institutions, such as ONGC, etc., and its NIRF ranking in the engineering sector is great. I would like to focus more on practical projects and some tours to understand the culture and work-life balance of a petroleum engineer. There are events like Utsav, a campus surrounded by greenery, and scholarships for both boys and girls on the basis of JEE/12th results and for domiciles of Uttarakhand.

Great infrastructure and facilities.
Placements: Many students opted for higher studies in my course but 2 got placed in Being as we speak of 2024 and few others were placed in different companies. Top recruiters would include Vistara, Being, and Go First particularly for aerospace engineering.
Infrastructure: The infrastructure is great in comparison to other universities. It has Wi-Fi within the whole campus and the availability of decent classrooms. The lab facilities are very good especially in aerodynamics labs. The hostel is good in terms of security and sports facilities but food could be improved.
Faculty: The teachers are well knowledgeable and educationally qualified. They are helpful to quite an extent. The curriculum keeps changing depending on the industrial needs, which is a great thing about the college. The exams are simple and very much from within the syllabus.
Other: Aerospace is a different course altogether which provides knowledge not only about space but more. The fests are cool in the college which involve other extracurricular activities as well.

Review of University of Petroleum and Energy studies.
Placements: The placements are conducted under the placements cell who brings good companies for campus recruitments. Even the placement teachers are very helpful to the students taking care of all the aspects which are needed for every individual student to get placed. They try to guide us to the right track for getting a job.
Infrastructure: The infrastructure of our campus is huge having a big library and sports grounds along with different labs for the students to get a hands on experience in practical knowledge. Not only this, we have a separate place where we can sit and chill with our friends.
Faculty: The faculty is very good, they try to focus on every child who tries to reach out to them for some assistance and help. They make sure that every child does something innovative. The course curriculum obviously has a lot of significance. The passing percentage is 60 percent.

The pros and cons of choosing UPES.
Placements: When you opt for a B.Sc. in mathematics from the University of Petroleum and Energy Studies, do make it clear in your mind that there is no placement facility for this particular course. Not a single person from our course was placed in any company; they were not even able to sit in placement.
Infrastructure: Though the facility and infrastructure were decent enough, the campus is one of a kind. But the Wi-Fi hardly works in any part of the campus except for the library, which works too rarely. The quality of the facilities in the hostel was adequate, and the food was decent too. Sports and games facilities were also available.
Faculty: Most of the teachers were helpful, and all were highly qualified and next to perfection in their respective departments and had knowledge about all the related topics in their syllabus. The course curriculum was relevant too. Though it was a bit too theoretical, it was still good for knowledge. The semester exams were quite difficult, and the passing percentage was 35%.
Other: I chose this course primarily because of my passion for mathematics during my school days. Additionally, I was attracted to UPES due to the stunning campus and college life it offers, as well as the opportunities for exposure. While the course itself is commendable, it would be beneficial if they could provide internships and placements specifically for this program. Despite the irregularity of events, the campus crowd was delightful and enjoyable.
