The New College was established in 1951 and is affiliated to the University of Madras. Having completed more than six decades of dedicated service to the nation, the college has earned an enviable reputation as a leading institution of higher education in Chennai.
The New College offers degree and diploma programmes to aspirants at the undergraduate (UG) and post-graduate (PG) level. Programmes offered at The New College are in the streams including – Science, Humanities & Social Sciences, Computers & IT, Management as well as Commerce.
Minimum Eligibility Criteria for UG & PG Courses
The New College offers under-graduate courses in two shifts:
Shift I: College functions from 8:30 am to 1:30 pm
Shift II: College functions from 2:15 pm to 6:40 pm
Shift I
The New College offers courses in Commerce, Science, Computers & IT, Management and Humanities & Social Sciences at the UG level in Shift 1 which runs from 8:30 am to 1:30 pm everyday. BA (Honors) is offered majorly in Economics, English, History, Sociology, Arabic, etc. BCom is offered in General and Corporate Secretaryship while BSc (Honors) is offered in Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Plant Biology, Plant Biotechnology, Advanced Zoology & Biotechnology and Computer Science.
The basic eligibility criteria for all the courses is passing 10 + 2 examination. All admissions are based on the merit in the qualifying examination.

College offers courses in Commerce, Management, Science, Humanities & Social Sciences and Computers & IT. BA is offered in Urdu, B.Sc in Biotechnology and Computer Science and BCom in General, Corporate Secretaryship and Bank Management. The New College also offers in BBA and BCA. Shift-2 runs from 2:15 pm to 6:40 pm.

The New College comprises of PG level programmes focusing on the area of Humanities & Social Sciences, Science and Commerce in Shift 1 and 2 respectively. MA, MSc and MCom are offered with a duration period of two years.

Short-term Courses
The New College offers value-added, skill-oriented, add-on courses with anemphasis on job openings in service, industry and self-employment sectors. Admission is open to these Certificate/Diploma and Advanced Diploma courses for all Undergraduate and Postgraduate students with the classes being conducted after regular college working hours/during the weekend. The courses offered are:
- Certificate in Computer Assembling and Servicing
- Certificate in Quantitative methods and Computer Applications
- Certificate, Diploma and Advanced Diploma in Clinical Laboratory Technology
The New College Admission Process
- Use the online payment link to pay application fee and then use the "IOB PAY Track Id '' to fill the application form
- You must provide atleast one valid mobile number and e-mail ID, as admission office will contact candidates only through these modes
- You are expected to adhere to the rules and regulations of the College, wherever given, for the smooth conduct of admission for the academic year 2017 - 18
- Applications with incorrect information/wrong application fee will be rejected, Application fee details are available in the payment link
- Selected candidates will be intimated through the mobile by sms. The list of students selected for different courses will also be displayed in the College notice board and in the College website
- Admission to any course doesn't guarantee Hall/Hostel accommodation. Application should be submitted separately to the Deputy Warden of The New College Hostel after getting admitted in any course
- The College does not accept donations for admission. If anyone promises admission on payment of Donation in cash or kind, it must be brought to the notice of the Principal immediately, if not, it will lead to cancellation of admission
The New College Application Process
- Download the Prospectus and read the instructions carefully before filling up the Application Form
- Click 'Admission 2017-2018' to apply for the academic year 2017-2018
- Click 'Pay Online'
- Fill all the details carefully
- Select category “Educational Institution”, Merchant “The New College, Chennai” and choose application fee in the drop down menus. You will be directed to 'Details of Payment' screen
- In program field, choose the right application category
- Fill up all mandatory fields and click 'Submit'
- You will be directed to “Confirmation' screen
- Choose the Payment Mode and Submit
- Complete the payment process
- Note down the " IOB PAY Track Id " and date of payment to fill up the application
- After making payment, click the 'Application 2017 -18' and choose online payment mode
- Enter "IOB Pay Track Id" and date of payment
- Click 'Proceed' button
Steps to apply-
Step 1:
- Read instructions to apply and click 'Accept' button
- Select stream/ shift, degree and course
- After identifying your course, click 'Apply' button
Step 2:
- Fill personal information, Permanent address details, etc.
- Click 'Continue to Step 3' button
Step 3:
- Fill Academic details and marks obtained in the qualifying exam
- Click 'Save and Verify' button
- Verify the entered details and click 'Confirm' button.
- After confirmation, you will get the message "Saved Successfully"
- After completing the application procedure, your Application Number will be generated and the same will be sent to your mobile. Quote the Application Number for any queries regarding admission

Download a copy of Filled in Application form, attach the relevant documents and sent it
